Mosel river cycle 2016
This is an exceptional week long holiday. The region is spectacular and the towns and villages along the way are quaint and packed with interest .The accommodation throughout was , except for Koblenz , superb. Breakfasts were first class. The highlights were the Karl Marx Museum in Trier and Buddha Museum in Traben Trabach.
The only downsides were two. Firstly the bicycles we got were more city rambling than rural terrain bikes. The back pedal brake was a nightmare and we only had 7 gears we should have realised beforehand and upgraded. We had better bikes on the Danube in 2015.
The second disappointment was that we went up the see Burg Elke castle. We managed to cycle up despite the bikes though it was tough. On arrival at the summit the directions to the castle were awful. We ended up walking 2km through woods into a ravine. We felt lost and had to abandon our effort to find the castle. This was a major disappointment considering the physical effort we had in getting there in the first place.
Just a small final note is that there are very few information leaflets , signs , menu’s , etc in english.
These complaints did not take away from a wonderfully enjoyable weeks break on the Mosel. Thanks. Hugh Daly
