Madeira 2024
We had a lovely holiday in Madeira - the routes each day and the standard of the hotels were great. We would though like to give you some feedback that would have made a big difference to our experience.
Firstly the GUIBO navigation app worked pretty well until we arrived at our destination town each day, but the navigation just stopped, leaving us to look around the town for the hotel. GUIBO didn?t take us to the hotel, which made the hotels difficult to find.
There were two of us cycling but GUIBO only seemed to work on one of our phones at a time. We were given written documentation but it was in German.
Secondly the third hotel we stayed in - Hotel Casa de Piedade - apart from being difficult to find, the door was locked when we did find it and there was no one to let us in to the building or tell us where to leave our bicycles. Fortunately another guest let us in. The hotel itself was ok and provided a lovely breakfast the following morning but it was a little out of town with no nearby restaurants to get an evening meal. Finally the bicycles had no cage to hold a water bottle. It is important to stay hydrated when you’re riding and if you need to stop to get your water bottle from your panniers you are not going to drink enough. Madeira is a lovely island and the cycling was challenging which we enjoyed immensely but if the above points could be considered they would offer definite improvements to the trip.
