Tauern Bike Path: Salzburg - Salzburg

Trip along the Saalach and Salzach Rivers

Tourmap

Route

Tour profile / Level 2

Flat to slightly hilly terrain. The bike route leads on low-traffic roads through the flat valley of the Saalach and Salzach rivers, where only occasional minor climbs have to be overcome. The continuous signposting guarantees a carefree cycling pleasure

Day 1: Salzburg

Individual arrival. Here, not only Mirabell Palace, Hohensalzburg Fortress, Mozart’s birthplace and Salzburg Cathedral attract visitors, but also sweet delights such as Mozartkugeln and Salzburger Nockerl.

Day 2: Salzburg – Bischofshofen/St. Johann, approx. 50 - 60 km

Along the Salzach River you cycle to Hallein, where the Salzwelten show mine is worth a visit. Then you cycle to Golling, where you can visit the waterfalls of the same name. Continue to Werfen, where Hohenwerfen Castle towers high above the Salzach River. In Bischofshofen you can visit the ski jump, which is an annual stop of the Four Hills Tournament.

Day 3: Bischofshofen/St. Johann – Zell am See/Kaprun, approx. 40 - 55 km

Travelling via Bruck at the foot of the Großglockner, you continue cycling to Zell am See. Here you can enjoy a pleasant swim in the Zeller Lake. Overnight stay in Piesendorf, Zell am See or Kaprun.

Day 4: Visit of Krimml Waterfalls, approx. 60 - 70 km + train ride

This cycling day begins with a train or bus ride (incl.) to Krimml. From there it is only 3 km to the largest waterfall in Europe, the famous Krimmler Waterfalls (Admission included). The return trip by bike leads you through the Pinzgau from town to town and the snow-covered three thousanders tower in the background: Großvenediger, Großglockner and Kitzsteinhorn.

Day 5: Zell am See/Kaprun – Lofer, approx. 45 - 60 km

Travelling via Maria Alm with the known pilgrimage church, you cycle via Saalfelden in the direction of Lofer. It is worthwhile to take a side-trip to the Seisenbergklamm (gorge) and the Lamprechtshöhle (cave)

Day 6: Lofer – Salzburg, approx. 50 km

The last stage leads through the tranquil Saalach valley. The health resort Bad Reichenhall in the „small German corner“ is enchanting with Bavarian flair. You then continue through the wide plain of the Salzburger Basin to your departure point of your round trip.

    Bicycle

    Bicycles inclusive panniers

    Following bikes are available:

    • Unisex bike with Nuvinci transmission
    • E-Bikes

The NuVinci CVT special gear system (correspond to a 27 speed bike) uses a set of rotating balls and also tilting balls in a transmission. Tilting the balls changes their contact diameters and varies the speed ratio. As a result, the NuVinci CVT system offers seamless and continuous transition to any ratio within its range.

The offered bikes are touring bikes with an aluminium frame and kitted with responsive brakes and gears. Plus: comfort gel saddles, flat-palmed grips, Schwalbe Marathon anti-puncture tyres. All bikes are equipped with a pannier (saddle bag) and a handlebar bag/per room.

    E-bikes | Electrical bikes | Pedelecs

If you had few opportunities to cycle over the last weeks or if you are not sure concerning your fitness, but also with physical disabilities, every bike ride is a treat! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern E-bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times ... So you can now book a bike tour together with cyclists who have different fitness level. Acclivity can be handled easily.
