    Bruges home-based tour

    Romantic cycling around Bruges

    • Bruges is a nice town with surprisingly peaceful surroundings. That makes Bruges the perfect place for a cycling trip. The best examples to describe the beauty of this region are the North Sea Coast or the typical polder landscapes. But, of course, Bruges is much more than a cycling destination.

This town is also known as "The Venice of the North" and is in many people’s opinion the most beautiful city in Belgium. Enjoy the small medieval town centre with its narrow canals, its numerous chocolate stores, its museums, .....Bruges has it all!

      Tour profile / Level 1

All cycling tours are very easy to follow. The road book offers 4 tours, along a signposted cycling network. This network can also be found on the maps. It doesn’t matter in which order the different tours are made. You cycle on flat bike paths, suitable for beginners and families with children.

      Day 1: Bruges

      Individual arrival to Bruges.

      Day 2 - 4./5.: Routings/program suggestions

You can find our suggestions for the nicest bike tours in the surroundings below. It is up to you, which ones you choose and combine. You can plan this homebase tour however it suites you best.

Tour 1: Castles around Torhout and Wijnendaele, approx.69 km

This tour will bring you to some interesting castles. The first one is d’Aertrycke, which was built in 1869. The other one is Wijnendaele castle, which has a history of 8 centuries!

Tour 2: Damme and the town Knokke at the North Sea, approx. 59 km

On this tour, you will see the most picturesque villages of Flanders. A very popular example is Damme, because of the beautiful historic town centre. Many people visit Damme for the gastronomy and for the many interesting sights.

Tour 3: Lissewege and De Haan at the North Sea, approx.52 km

Lissewege is a charming polder village, with a little canal flowing through the centre. The tour goes further to De Haan, a village which preserved the ‚Belle Epoque‘ style (19th century) beautifully.

Tour 4: The Park; castle and nature around Bulskampveld, approx. 55 km

On this tour, we will cycle along the canal Bruges – Gent. A popular place of interest is the ‘Male abbey‘. This abbey was once the main castle of the duke of Flanders.

By popular demand, we have now invested in a considerable number of e-bikes, much favoured by cyclists who love the great Outdoors, but prefer to let the bike take the strain.

With an electric bike every bike tour is a breeze! If you had few opportunities to cycle over the last weeks or if you are not sure concerning your fitness, but also with physical disabilities, every bike ride is a treat! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern electric bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times ... So you can now book a bike tour together with cyclists who have different fitness levels. Acclivity can be handled easily.

You are welcome to bring your own bicycle. It is adapted especially to your needs. Do not forget to bring a repair kit with all necessary tools such as: keys, reserve tube and lock. Please check your own bicycle for operability upon arrival.
