Amsterdam to Bruges
This trip was, on the whole, good. The routes were scenic and the roads were quiet, as advertised. We did, however, have a problem each and every day with incomplete information about the route. This most often added a bunch of kilometers to our day as we had to backtrack a lot. There were intersection numbers missing and , as in the last day, the numbers weren’t even close to what was in the guide. Thankfully, we had a phone with a GPS with us so we could tell if we were going the right way.
Also, the directions in the book took us to a hotel which wasn’t our hotel ( in Dordrecht). We were excited when we saw the hotel, took our stuff off the bikes and locked them up, only to be told this wasn’t our hotel. In the list of hotels, the correct hotel was listed (Hotel postillion) so we assumed the directions would take us there! We had to bike another 8-10 km to the outskirts of town - to a ’car hotel’. We weren’t very happy. There were few restaurants close by except for fast food. We were not in the old part of town but in the suburbs with nowhere to go. This was not a good biking hotel.
One thing we really appreciated was having access to the bikes a couple of days early. We got to Amsterdam 2 days ahead of the start of the trip. The bikes were there and we were told we could use them right away. What a bonus! We so appreciated that!
