A wonderful trip full of sights, scenery, lovely accommodations and food.
We had two weeks of cycling - from Passau to Vienna, and from Vienna to Budapest. Each had a different character. The first week was most enjoyable, i loved the small ancient villages, biking along forested roads with castles in the distance, and the Wachau day. The second week wasn’t AS enjoyable for me - the guide book’s directions were TERRIBLE, which imposed en element of stress into each day, and some time being lost on several days. Hotels were still nice - we particularly got a kick out of the Bow GArden Hotel - but the scenery and routes were rougher, and sort of sad sometimes because of the obviously hard-up villages. People were less friendly. we did have some nice stretches there too though, to be fair.
we found the bikes VERY heavy - they worked well (gears, brakes, tires) but SO heavy!!!!
Overall, we both enjoyed the trip very much. I really enjoyed not having to make any arrangements - that was relaxing for me for a change! :)
