Dresden home-based tour
We requested this self-guided tour at almost the last minute, so felt very lucky to be so well-served by agent Julia. On site, we were well-briefed in person by local contact Hans. The day trips were beautiful and interesting, and we enjoyed inclusion of a relaxing paddle boat return from Meissen and a steam train segment on the ride to Moritzburg. We liked being able to make choices about which days we went on diffetent rides, and after a couple days we understood how to extend or change the routes as we pleased. In particular, we liked the alternative route from Bad Schandau (instead of Kamenz), stopping to hike to the fortress at Konigstein. Whenever we left the Elberadweg, the directions tended to become somewhat difficult to follow. This is partly due to the awkward English translation, but we were fine when we bought cycling maps from the TI to compensate for the lack of good maps in the route guide. The route guide included some very good history notes, and very good recommendations about places where we might stop to eat.
