Bruges home based tour

We have been participating in self guided cycling tours throughout Europe for the past 10+ years. This year’s adventure took us to Bruges and we choose a home based tour as we did not want to pack up every day. We stayed at the A level hotel, De Tuilerrieen and added an extra night to be able to spend a little time in Bruges. The highlights of the trip were the hotel, lovely daily breakfast, charming Bruges with it’s incredible history, the great restaurants (but be sure to make advance reservations) and our bikes, which were top notch. Areas for improvement: - No cycle helmets provided, which appears to be more of a cultural norm. So bring your own! - There are no water bottle holders on the bikes. This was very surprising as I’ve never been on a bike tour with bikes that did not have holders. Having to stop everytime you want a drink of water to get it our of the saddlebag is quite inconvenient. - Despite repeated requests for getting the routes in advance, for some reason, Rad Reisen was unable to do that. In the past, we have always received the routing prior to arrival. That way we can plug the information in our GPS, which makes the cycle tour easy and stress free. Instead we got a trip directory that took us to each way point, which required reading while riding. This is the 21st century! Technology exists for smart phones to make this much easier - at least give clients the option. - On the directions there was no option leaving from our hotel, which further complicated our morning start. Only directions from the other two hotels. - Clearly no one had updated the directions, as several paths were closed for repair. Again, not a huge problem, as we are resourceful, but for other bikers it’s puts them at risk for getting lost. My point here is that the attention to detail is what makes a difference and could have made for a more enjoyable tour.
