The weather was certainly a factor
We are very fortunate to have had the opportunity to cycle the Danube with top notch bicycles and wonderful accommodation. We met some lovely, interesting people. Because the weather was rainy and cold we were on-board and indoors more often than most groups I think. There was little in the way of entertainment. We didn’t see any movies available in the library or even a deck of playing cards.
We had hoped to have learned more about the places we were visiting or even simply the names of the towns we were cruising by. It seemed that this could have been operating on a loop on the TVs in our cabins with a minimum amount of expense.
At breakfast each morning there was never a full selection of choices, always one or two or three bins were empty and took a long time to be refilled. We had to ask for cutlery. The bag lunch sandwiches were always gone and not necessarily replenished. The dinner service was disorganized and sporadic. Hot plates were being handed to us to pass down the line before soup bowls had been removed. Our server asked each night “who has wine card for dinner”. A top notch server would have been on that stuff and double his tips.
The bicycles and the handling of the bikes and equipment was excellent. The cabins were exceptionally clean and comfortable.
