Bicycling from Amsterdam to Brugge
There were two problems that you should know about. The first and smaller problem was that the written tour instructions at the Westcord Art Hotel in Amsterdam were only in German, with no English, and nobody was there to answer our questions. I can read a little German, but I could not read the instructions very well, and the hotel was unable to obtain an English version. However, we were still able to follow these maps and find our way to the next town.
The other problem was more important: The first bicycling day, from Amsterdam to Gouda, was 80 kilometers, which is too far for us. This was compounded by my difficulties with reading the instructions in German which I think led to a wrong turn at one point and many extra kilometers. 50 kilometers is a good daily distance for us, and 80 km is too far. The trip could easily have been shortened by simply using a starting hotel on the other side of Amsterdam, in the direction of Gouda. We spent more than an hour just getting from our hotel to the city limits of Amsterdam. I loved the Westcord Art Hotel, but the starting hotel should be closer to Gouda.
