First time cycle tourist views
This was the first time I have ever been on a cycle tour. The pre-tour information was very good but the on tour information( for an English speaker, and first time cycle trip was less than adequate. the tour book and maps appeared very good at the beginning but near the end became almost unusable, For example. the last day was from Visegrad to Budapest. the tour book only covers Esztergom to Budapest. as a new cycle tour participant I found the tour book lacking. In the end I decided to use the ferry’s to cross the Danube ( 3 times) and follow the Esztergom to Budapest route. This worked well but it would be much more helpful if the tour book explained the best way to do this (It should also include the Ferry crossing times for all the relevant ferrys) . The only indication of this approach ( crossing the Danube from Visegrad) was on page 85 and was only as a tip. I can read German ( not very well)and I found that the German language sections of the tour book seemed to be better than the English translations. The trip was great but the most unpleasant part was the last p7km into Budapest. the route becomes confused and I and I observed other tour riders ( German language) became confused with where the route actually went. Better maps and photographs of key points of the route into Budapest would be a great help.
