North Sea Cycle Route – Discover the sea
The North Sea Cycle Route follows the Atlantic Ocean for 5942 kilometers. With a stiff breeze at your back, the salty sea air in your nose, and pretty coastal towns in front of you, nature lovers will inevitably succumb to the charms of the sea when completing some of the stages of this European long-distance cycle route!
Diverse, maritime, and beautiful: cycling trips along the North Sea
If you want to listen to the soothing monotony of the sound of the waves while cycling and can't get enough of the vastness of the sea, you'll feel like you're in paradise on the international North Sea Cycle Route. Below are the neighboring countries through which the travel offers lead:
- Netherlands
- Belgium
- Germany
- Norway
- Denmark
Despite a few detours into the hinterland, the long-distance cycle route always seeks to stay close to the sea. A mixture of nature experiences and cultural impressions also awaits participants on the North Sea Cycle Route from Hamburg to Sylt, for example. Leaving the hustle and bustle of the Hanseatic city behind, the route follows the Elbe to Brunsbüttel. Huge ocean liners accompany the route at first, before it turns north and the solitude and vastness of Friesland and its islands open up.
Cycling in a paradise for bikes: exploring the Netherlands
Between Amsterdam and the island of Texel lies a flat and therefore particularly cyclist-friendly country: the Netherlands. Small villages and towns, tulip fields, powder-soft beaches, and canals alternate and exude an extremely calming atmosphere. For families with children, there are exciting things to discover at cheese markets and in the midst of vast pastures. Because Texel's coasts are flooded by the ocean depending on the tides, a mudflat hike is the perfect way to round off your stay. Both the Dutch North Route and the South Route start in Amsterdam and offer the option of pedaling along the densest urban cycle path network in the world. The scent of the 4.5 million tulips that bloom every year at Keukenhof can be smelled from several kilometers away on a North Sea bike tour (max. 2x).
Breathe in the freedom: the North Sea Cycle Route
No matter which arrangement you choose, following the North Sea coast by bike is a meditative and varied undertaking. After all, the fascinating, wistful panorama of the endless horizon becomes your constant companion!
