Cycling tours in Serbia

Serbia, a landlocked country in the southeastern part of Europe, is one of the youngest countries in Europe and only formally became independent in 2006. Belgrade, the Serbian capital, was formerly the capital of the former Republic of Yugoslavia. Serbia is characterized by a diverse mountainous landscape with rich and sometimes unique fauna and flora. Another striking feature is the majestic Danube, which flows through the country for more than 500 kilometers. With its varied relief of mountains and plains, the country is ideal for cycling tours like hardly any other region in Europe.

Traveling through Serbia by bike

As a rule, EU citizens only need a valid ID card to enter the country. A passport and visa are not required. If you want to travel through Serbia's countryside by bike, it is best to take the train to get there. Cycling tours through Serbia are of medium difficulty and are suitable for anyone with normal fitness. The best way to explore the country is in a group led by an experienced tour guide. Although many Serbs speak German or English, it is better to speak Serbian in order to get around without any problems. Even a few words will help you make contacts and break the ice.

There are countless Serbian destinations. One of the best known is the international cycle path that runs along the banks of the Danube and touches the famous “Iron Gate.” In addition, countless churches, monasteries, and historical buildings invite you to linger. The Serbs are known for their hospitality. Even in small towns, you will be spontaneously invited to festivals or even family celebrations. Especially in the warm season, festivals are celebrated everywhere. Nature lovers will also get their money's worth. More than 8 percent of the country is nature reserves. These include 5 national parks, 20 nature parks, and 590 nature reserves.
