Cycling tours in Norway: Cycling in the land of trolls, Vikings, and fjords
Norway—the rugged, hospitable country on the edge of Scandinavia—offers cyclists wonderful opportunities to get closer to the unspoiled nature of the green continent. Mountains, fjords, and plenty of culture await all those who embark on a cycling tour there.
A heavenly creation of sea and mountains
Anyone who undertakes a cycling tour through Norway cannot help but stop repeatedly in amazement: the steep rocky flanks, the inlets cutting deep into the land, and the species-rich nature invite you to linger. Behind almost every bend, cyclists can expect breathtakingly beautiful gems:
- waterfalls cascade noisily down into the valley,
- unusual mountain formations suddenly tower up,
- sleepy villages dominated by falun red houses line the roadside
- and towns worth seeing tempt you to slow down.
Oslo – Norway’s largest and most beautiful city – is one of the greenest metropolises in Europe. As the cycle path winds its way towards the capital, participants on our cycle tour through Norway will find it hard to believe they are approaching a big city. Oslo has a dense network of hiking and cycling trails, its own small ski area, and boasts an atmospheric, idyllic harbor! A city made for nature lovers and recreational athletes.
Along the coast: on the road along the Oslo Fjord
The Oslo Fjord measures an impressive 118 kilometers. On our Oslo and its Fjords bike tour, we follow its shores more or less exactly, giving cyclists the opportunity to get to know one of the most enchanting landscapes in Scandinavia. Thousands of islands bob in the deep blue water off the coast, tempting you to leave your bike saddle for a refreshing dip on hot summer days. While you enjoy a swim, mighty ocean liners glide past further out at sea. The imposing ferries and cruise ships form a magnificent backdrop, especially at sunset, and create an unmistakable feeling of wanderlust.
Because the Oslo Fjord winds its way through slightly hilly but never steep terrain, the bike tour through Norway can be easily mastered by passionate amateur cyclists. However, being in good physical condition has the advantage of allowing you to focus more on marveling at the scenery than on pedaling – those who like to collect moments will appreciate this!
The highlights of the cycling tour through Norway
Our bike tour starts in the heart of Oslo and offers a visual treat right from the start: the hundreds of thousands of boats gently rocking with the waves down at the sprawling harbor are a feast for the eyes! Passing the Viking Ship Museum and Folk Museum, we head over to the suburb of Drammen.
The western shore of the Oslo Fjord offers many panoramic views of the inlet and takes cyclists through pretty settlements such as Horten and Sandefjord. The latter town was once a whaling stronghold. Today, cyclists on a tour of Norway can relax on beautiful beaches and indulge in delicious fish dishes at the numerous restaurants.
Until now, cyclists have enjoyed the view of the fjord – now it’s time to change perspective. During the crossing to Stromstad, the spectacular sea view will instantly enchant you. Once you arrive at the ferry port, the route continues to Frederikstad, Moss, and back to Oslo.

Southern Norway fulfills every wish of passionate cyclists in no time at all. The road network is excellently developed, the sights are diverse, and the panoramas are a dream. Who wouldn’t want to indulge in our Scandinavian cycling pleasure?
