The green heart of Holland.

Itinerary

Route

Tour profile / Level 1

Holland is the land of the bikers and covered with a big net of well built bike-paths. Only sometimes you will bike on small, quiet side streets. The route follows flat terrain. This tour is suitable for bike-tour-beginners and for children.
The bike legs are approx. 40 - 50 km long, you will stay approx. 4 h per day on the bike.

Day 1: Amsterdam – Haarlem, approx. 15 km

Individual arrival. Embarkation between 12:30 and 1:30 pm. Then at about 2 pm boat trip to Spaarndam and a short bike tour to Haarlem.

Day 2: Haarlem – Leiden, approx. 45 km

Today you start with a visit to the Cruquiusgemaal; one of the three steam mill groups with which Haarlemmermeer was pumped dry between 1849 and 1852. The tour then continues through the dunes towards the coast. Passing the small beach town of Noordwijk and the fishing village of Katwijk, today’s tour finally takes you to the university city of Leiden. Leiden is a historic city with many courtyards, gables and buildings from the 15th to 18th centuries. The ship is moored next to the Zijlpoort, the lock gate that was once part of the city walls.

Day 3: Leiden – Delft, approx. 40 km

You leave the city in a southerly direction and drive along the Vliet Canal to take the road to the coast at Voorschoten. At Wassenaarse Slag you can take a short break on the beach. The route then continues to The Hague. The route to Delft leads along the water again. The old city center is worth a visit. Very impressive is the view from the church tower. In clear weather you can see almost the entire southern route.

Day 4: Visit of Delft, The Hague

Today is at your leisure. You can stay in Delft and explore the old town or take public transportation to The Hague or Rotterdam. Delft is an immaculately preserved medieval city with canals, a magnificent city hall and a royal crypt in the Nieuwe Kerk. It is the cradle of the famous Delft blue ceramics, which are still made by hand. In addition, Delft has many museums and attractions. The Hague has international allure with its shopping streets, parks and imposing stately homes. Worth seeing: the Vredespaleis (the Peace Palace), the seat of the International Court of Justice, the Binnenhof, seat of the government and the Parliament, with the 13th century Knight’s Hall.

Day 5: Delft – Rotterdam/Kinderdijk – Gouda, approx. 40 km

The first part of the stage is by boat through the center of Rotterdam. By ferry you will then go to Kinderdijk, the largest collection of windmills in the Netherlands. The tour continues here by bike towards Gouda after visiting one of these windmills. On the way you will pass impressive polders, green meadows and the beautiful Alblasserwaard.

Day 6: Gouda – Oude Wetering, approx. 45 km

From Gouda we cycle along country roads and canals through the Green Heart and polder landscapes to Oude Wetering. This small quiet village is the last stop before heading back to Amsterdam the next day. Enjoy the peace and serenity that Oude Wetering spreads!

Day 7: Oude Wetering – Amsterdam, approx. 45 km

Today you cycle first to Uithoorn and through polders along the rivers Waver and Amstel. Crossing the Amstel, you will reach Amsterdam almost unnoticed. The city’s extensive network of bike paths lets you easily pass some of the prominent points of the city center and reach your ship, where you say goodbye to your bikes. In the evening there is the possibility of a canal tour, who would like, can take part in a guided tour of the city afterwards.

Day 8: Amsterdam

Disembarkation after the breakfast before 10 am and individual departure.
