First of all I would like to commend Christine Schmid for her handling of our reservations. They were very well done. We very much enjoyed the trip and have recommended it to our friends. However there were some criticisms. We stayed at the Hotel Deutscher in Trier . It was fine and the staff very helpful in getting our bicycles. However it would have been useful to have a sentence in our instructions telling us how to get onto the cycle path from the hotel. Yes the staff told us to just go down to the river, but when we did that, there were no signs telling us where the cycle path was. We walked down a steep set of steps and found a path along the river, but this was not the cycle path we wanted to go on. Eventually we found out we had to cross the river to get to the proper trail, but no directions which way to go on the path to get to Koblenz. A few words in our instructions would have been very helpful. Our second criticism is there was inadequate signage along the path. On several occasions we came to an intersection with two or three choices which way to go, but we had to guess. Sometimes we were correct other times wrong. A few more signs painted on the road surface would have been a great help. In general the accommodation was fine. However in Koblenz we had some trouble finding our hotel- Hotel Brenner. Being strangers to Germany and the city we did not know what the "Deutsche Eck" was or the castle. Fortunately we stopped and asked a local cyclist for help. He told us to cycle along the Mosel to the Rhine then turn right past the city hall and take the first street on the left. It worked fine. Once we knew our way we had no trouble, so a simple direction really helps. One other minor comment on the Hotel Brenner. It was fine, except the four of us were all seniors in our 80’s and giving two of us rooms on the 5 th floor without an elevator was not not a great idea. Fortunately, we were both fit enough to climb the stairs, but would have preferred not to have to, especially since we stayed in Koblenz a couple of extra days after the cycle trip.
