Alsace - vineyards & villages

Bon appétit & bon voyage

Route

Tour profile / level 2

In the Alsace you cycle mainly on cycle paths in slightly hilly terrain, sometimes with quite demanding sections. For this reason we offer two different routes for each stage to ensure that also less skilled cyclist can cope with the routes. Each day you can decide which level of difficulty suits you.

Day 1: Strasbourg

Individual arrival.

Day 2: Strasbourg - Sélestat/surroundings, approx. 25 - 55 km

You will leave Strasbourg along the Rhône-Rhine canal which will lead you along its very pretty cycle track into the heart of the Ried.

Day 3: Sélestat/surroundings - Colmar, approx. 38 - 68 km

You will travel through the landscapes and villages of the Alsatian Ried which is rich in aquatic flora and fauna. Arrival in Colmar, the capital of the wine of Alsace and the town of art, by the cycle track of the channel of Colmar.

Day 4: Colmar - Guebwiller, approx. 33 km

From Colmar you follow the French wine route. The dreamy wine-growing villages, with many Alsatian timber-frame houses, and magnificent mediaeval town centres in the midst of extensive vineyards are areas for unwinding, enjoyment and simply relaxing.

Day 5: Guebwiller - Riquewihr/surroundings, approx. 48 km

At the foot of the Vosges nestle the winemaking villages responsible for the reputation of the Alsatian Grand Crus: Eguisheim, Turkheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr.

Day 6: Riquewihr/surroundings - Obernai/surroundings, approx. 49 km

Along the wine road you will discover the villages of Barr, Andlau and its abbey, Bergheim, Ribeauvillé, Hunawihr.

Day 7: Obernai/surroundings - Strasbourg, approx. 37 km

Country roads and cycle tracks will take you from Rosheim and to Avolsheim. From there, along the cycle track on the banks of the Bruche canal, you will reach the capital of Europe: Strasbourg. Individual departure or extension.

    Delightful Floral Alsace

We had a wonderful trip. GPS files for day 1 and day 4 corrupted (need to be fixed) and book directions for that day poor. We did 65 kms instead of 45! The route requires a GPS/Garmin or else you stop every 5 minutes to check route. (We had one and Michael ...

    Alsace Bike Tour.

Everybody loved the biketour. The landscape was very charming. We had chosen Category A hotels , where we would be 2 nights in 4 star hotels. But we spent only 1 night in a 4 star hotel. Rooms at the hotel in Kaysersberg were very small and tight.
