Adige Cycle Path Meran - Lake Garda

From Spa Town to the "Lago"

Route

Tour profile / Level 1-2

An easy cycling tour, mainly on cycle paths. Only towards lake Kaltern and lake Garda you will experience minor ascents.

5-day tour

Day 1: Meran
Route instructions, tour information and rental bike (if booked) await you at the hotel.

Day 2: Meran - Bolzano, approx. 45 km
Via Lana (Schnatterpeck altar) and through numerous orchards and vineyards in the area of the South Tyrolian wine route, passing several well-fortified castles, palaces and ruins onwards to Eppan and along the base of Sigmundskron castle (Messner-Mountain museum) to Bolzano (pergolas, ‚Ötzi’ museum).

Day 3: Bolzano - Trento, approx. 70km
Along the river Eisack out of Bolzano until you reach the Adige where the beautiful cycle path leads you through fruitgardens until Salurn, where the german-speaking part of southern Tyrol ends. Now the vines of the strong redvine "Teroldego" accompany you until the nice old town of Trento.

Day 4: Trento -  Lake Garda North, approx. 45 km
Shortly after the old Tyrolean border town of Rovereto our cycling tour leaves the Adige valley. After the only ascent worth mentioning (approx. 150 m) near Mori, the path leads downhill along the Lake towards Torbole. End of the cycling tour either in Riva or Torbole.

Day 5: Lake Garda North
Individual departure or extension.

7-day tour

Day 1: Meran
Route instructions, tour information and rental bike (if booked) await you at the hotel.

Day 2: Day trip Vinschgau/Meran, up to approx. 70 km
Via the train line ‚Vinschgaubahn’ towards ‚Reschenpass’. From the town of Mals onwards to Glurns (perfectly preserved Medieval city wall). Via the Montani ruins past Schlanders and heading south to Meran. Castles and palaces dot your way or tower high above (i.e. Juval castle owned by the Austrian mountaineer Reinhold Messners). While cycling enjoy marvellous views onto the impressive Ortler massif and the ‚Stilfserjoch’. This stage can be shortened if you wish.

Day 3: Meran - Bolzano, approx.

Day 4: Bolzano - Auer, approx. 30 km
There are two ways to get to lake Kaltern: slightly hilly on the new cycling path via Eppan OR on the flat cycling pah along the Etsch dam until the charming wine village Auer.

Day 5: Auer - Trento, approx. 45km
From Auer onwards on the cycle path along the Adige dam. The ‚Salurner Klause’ is the end of the German speaking part of South Tyrol. Your cycling path leads you through famous Trentino wine regions into the ancient diocesan town Trento (lovely old part of town, cathedral, Buonconsiglio palace).
