Route

Tour profile:

The area is flat without any climbs, moderately hilly in the area of Höri/ Untersee. You bike on cycle paths, mostly along the shore of the lake, no major uphill stretches.

Day 1: Constance

Individual arrival.

Day 2 - 5: routings / program suggestions

You can find our suggestions for the nicest bike tours in the surroundings below. It is up to you, which ones you choose and combine...or if you do something completely different.

Tour 1: Constance - Meersburg - Lindau, approx. 50 km + by boat back to Constance

Today, a ferry will take you to Meersburg. Via Friedrichshafen and small villages like Wasserburg and Nonnenhorn, this tour leads you to Lindau, the bavarian "capital in the lake". Back to Constance by boat.

Tour 2: trip to Mainau Island, approx. 15 km

Today we recommand a day excursion to the Mainau Island, the flower island on Lake Constance. Many mediterran flowers, some tropical plants or even sub-tropical flowers are growing there.

Tour 3: Constance - Überlingen - Salem - Meersburg - Constance, approx. 55 km + boat and ferry

By bike to Wallhausen and from there to Überlingen by boat. Along the lake Constance until the monastery church in Birnau, then fon the prelate track until Salem, where you can visit the castle and the "Affenberg". From there you cycle to Meersburg and per ferry back to Constance.

Tour 4: Constance - Reichenau Island - Stein am Rhein - Constance, approx. 50 km + boat trip

The first stop is the island Reichenau which is UNESCO world cultural heritage since 2001. A boat will bring you to Gaienhofen, where you can visit the house of Hermann-Hesse. You cycle along the peninsula Höri via Hemmenhofen to Stein am Rhein. The return path leads through Steckborn and Gottlieben to Constance.

We rent comfortable unisex bikes in a variety of frame sizes to our guests, also men’s bikes from a body height of 1,75 m. Both models are available with a 7-speed hub gear and back-pedal brakes or 24-derailleur gears and free-wheel.

E-bike:

With the Flyer electric bike (8-gear bike with free-wheel) every bike tour is a breeze! If you had few opportunities to cycle over the last weeks or if you are not sure concerning your fitness, but also with physical disabilities, every bike ride is a treat! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern electric bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times ... So you can now book a bike tour together with cyclists who have different fitness levels. Acclivity can be handled easily.

ARRIVAL BY PLANE

Airport: Friedrichshafen (FDH), Zürich (ZRH)

Zurich is the closest large airport and direct flights from Europe and Overseas are available. The Zurich airport has its own railway stop. Trains run frequently between Konstanz and Zurich (airport and city). It’s about 1 hour between the airport and Konstanz. Alternatively, you can fly into Friedrichshafen and take a 40 mins ferry across the lake.

Lovely Autumn Wanderings!

Overall: This is undoubtedly a beautiful part of the world with much to see and do, even if, as in my case, you don’t happen to get the best weather. Staying an extra day is recommended if you want to be able to take in the sights of Konstanz as well ...

Comment. The road book for Passat Vienna was very good but the one for trips from Konstanz was not really adequate. We found our way but more maps would have made it easier.
