Family Cruise Peloponnese + Saronic Islands by Bike + Boat

from/to Athens

Route

Tour profile / Level 1

The tours usually do not demand special fitness on part of the participants. The walks and short hikes take place on good, sometimes even asphalted paths and are also not demanding. Should some activities require a bit more in the way of physical fitness, the tour guide will point this out.

Itinerary

Day 1: Marina Zeas (Piraeus/Athens) – (Embarkation)
Individually arranged arrival to Marina Zeas; part of Piraeus and about 25 km from the airport. Check in is possible from 2 pm. Dinner will be on board and the night will be spent in Piraeus.

Day 2: Island of Aegina
In the morning, we cast off! Our boat takes us to Agina, an island known internationally for its excellent pistachios. Our guide invites us for a tour of the old town including a visit to the local archeological excavation site. Here you can lay eyes on an ancient Bronze Age village as well as the Apollo Temple, which rests above. We will have time to explore the narrow streets of the old town individually also, and the chance to taste all kinds of local pistachio specialties. In the late afternoon, the boat will take us to a quiet bay where we can swim and kayak until the sun goes down. The night is spent in the bay.

Day3: Island of Hydra,  approx. 3 km on foot
Our journey continues by boat to the island of Hydra. Donkeys have been the only means of transport on this beautiful island since it rose to importance in the middle ages as a seafaring harbor. Since the Greek fight for independence, which took place between 1821 – 1830, the island fell into a fairy-tale like slumber and time stood still. It was only in 1957 when the film, ‘Boy on a Dolphin’, with the unforgettable Sofia Loren was filmed here, that the Island awoke and became an artistic haven. Our guide shows us the most attractive sights of the capital city before leading us on a 3 km hike along the coastline to the beach at Vlychos. A Taxi boat will take us from here back to the capital. We can enjoy the rest of the afternoon in the unique island atmosphere accompanied mostly by a spectacular sunset.

Day 4: Island of Spetses,  approx. 10 km per bicycle
On our way to the Island of Spetes, we can enjoy a lengthy swim stop directly form the boat. Once we arrive at the Island capital, in typical blue and white Greek Island flair, we take the chance to visit a museum dedicated to the Greek heroin, Laskarina Bouboulina. In the afternoon, we cycle to the old fisher port where we can enjoy the local beach. In the evening, there is enough time to enjoy a stroll through the pebble mosaic lanes of the old town, unwinding with a sundowner in one of the local taverns.

Day 5: Nafplio,  approx. 15 km per bicycle
In the morning we cruise on board the Bahriyeli to Nafplio. On arrival in the former Greek capital, we mount our bicycles and cycle along the sea side promenade to Karathonas Beach. Here we can swim and enjoy the various water sports available on offer. In the afternoon our guide will take us for a gander through the pretty streets of the old town in Nafplio. The sophisticated fortifications of the town are impressive, along with their rich history. Flowers bring the streets to life with their colors and the vibe is set by the cafes, bars and restaurants each contributing their own individual flair.

Day 6: Porto Heli – Ermioni – Island of Poros,  approx. 17 km per bicycle
In the morning we cruise to Porto Heli. It is here that we start a longer, but relatively flat, bike tour leading us through rural landscapes to the pretty harbor of Ermioni. The boat meets us here and takes us to the island of Poros. Of course, we won’t forget to take a swim stop along the way. The harbor of Poros is a true eye catcher, with its magnificent bell tower, where we can enjoy an evening in true Greek fashion.

Day 7: Island of Poros ,  approx. 10 km per bicycle
From the city of Poros, we cycle to the orthodox monastery of Zoodochos Pigis from the 18th century. After a visitation, we can enjoy a homemade lemonade or coffee in the nearby café before taking advantage of the nearby sandy beach with its turquoise blue water. Back on board the last cruise can be enjoyed before arriving back in Piräus in the late afternoon. A last, celebrative evening meal on board can be enjoyed in the company of the guests, tour guides and crew, reflecting on the experiences of the week.

Day 8: Marina Zeas (Piraeus/Athens) – (Disembarkation)
After breakfast on board it is time to disembark to return home or to extend your holiday a few days longer in Athens.
