Amalfi Coast-South Italy by Bike + Boat

Deep blue sea in the Gulf of Naples

Route

Tour profile / Level 2

From gently hilly to hilly, always along the coastal line. Asphalted streets open to normal vehicles (it is possible to have some vehicular traffic in some streets along the Amalfi coast - Amalfitana). Not suitable for children.

Day 1: Castellamare di Stabia /Naples

Individual arrival to Castellamare di Stabia (Naples). Embarkation at 6 p.m. Welcome drink, dinner and presentation of the programme.

Day 2: Pompei, approx. 14 km

Cycle trip to Pompeii and visit of Pompeii and the Villa dei Misteri. It is the biggest open-air archaeological site of the world. A great example of past human life, where the huge eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 A.D fixed forever under ashes and lava men in their daily activities. Return journey to the Marina di Castellammare and departure with the ship towards Sorrento. Walking visit of the town and return to the boat. Overnight on board at the Marina di Cassano in roadstead or in the port of Castellammare in case of bad weather conditions. Overnight on the caique Sorrento.

Day 3: Sorrento - Positano - Amalfi, approx. 34 km

In the morning departure by bike along the Sorrento coast. You cross “Passo San Pietro” (St. Peter’s pass) and you enter in the Amalfi coast, where you will cycle along the wonderful road overlooking the sea up to Positano. Its colorful houses have been built in amphitheatre shape, overlooking the sea, giving a unique and picturesque aspect to the village. After Positano you continue towards Amalfi, the most powerful Mariner Republic at the end of X century. We suggest the visits of the cloister of Paradise and the church and a walk along the main street that is connected with many narrow streets between white fishermen’s houses.

Day 4: Amalfi - Minori - Vietri - Cetara, approx. 27 km + alternative Ravello, approx. 37 km

From Amalfi you continue your cycle tour along the coast, cycling on a street with some ups and downs overlooking the sea, crossing the villages of Minori, Maiori and Cetara. It is possible to make a deviation and go up towards Ravello, where in the placid beauty of the main square, the Dome dedicated to Saint Pantaleone stands out. The blood of the Saint liquefies every year on 27th July. From the village dominating the sea from 300 m above sea level, you can enjoy a view beyond the Gulf of Salerno and up to the Cilento mountains. We suggest a visit to Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo, whose architecture (a mixture of Arab, Sicilian and Norman style) was an inspiration for Wagner. You return on the road along the coast to finally reach Vietri and Salerno. You come back to the gulet and navigation to Capri. There will be some breaks during the sailing to take a bath and to admire the Amalfi coast from the sea. Overnight in roadstead in Capri.

Day 5: Capri

Disembarkation with the tender in Marina Grande (Capri). You visit the Island on foot, you reach the village of Capri with its famous "piazzetta” and continue to the Faraglioni. From above the cliff you can enjoy a wonderful panorama on the Gulf of Naples dominated by the Vesuvius. Overnight stay on board in the port of Ischia Island.

Day 6: Ischia, approx. 18 km

Cycling from Ischia port you will cross by bike the west part of the island among the scents and flavors of the Mediterranean sea, crossing little villages with the possibility of visiting little museums along the stage. One you reach the thermal village of S. Angelo, embarkation and overnight in port.

Day 7: Procida and Solfatara volcan

We sail up to Procida, walking visit of the town and San Michele Abbey. Return to the boat to continue to Pozzuoli, in the bay of Naples. We visit on foot the historical city centre of Pozzuoli with a stop at the Roman Amphitheatre, the third biggest amphitheatre of the roman empire. Navigation up to Marina di Castellammare di Stabia. Overnight in the Marina of Castellammare di Stabia.

Day 8: Castellamare di Stabia/Naples

Disembarkation at 09 a.m. Individual departure.

    E-bike
By popular demand, we have now invested in a considerable number of e-bikes, much favoured by cyclists who love the great Outdoors, but prefer to let the bike take the strain. With an electro bike every bike tour is a breeze! If you had few opportunities to cycle over the last weeks or if you are not sure concerning your fitness, but also with physical disabilities, every bike ride is a treat! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern E-bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times ... So you can now book a bike tour together with cyclists who have different fitness level. Acclivity can be handled easily.

A note to our customers: Electric bikes are a great thing! However, due to their characteristics (high weight + high speed) they should only be booked by very experienced and safe cyclists with a good sense of balance. E-bikes are not appropriate for persons who do not ride bikes frequently.

    Amalfi Coast 2019

Wonderful Tour. Wonderful Region. Wonderful Boat, Wonderful Guide, Other participants very sympathetic. Only our e-bikes were of poor quality and we had several problems but the guide made her best to cope with that.
