Passau to Vienna
We had a wonderful time on our tour despite the fact that it was rainy and windy 5 of the 6 days.The route is amazing. I loved the variety of landscape and riding through the charming towns and villages.
We didn?t have any issues with our bikes. We did have a bit of trouble finding the place where we were to pick them up. It was easy to get to the area, but not so easy to find the actual building we were looking for. We were very satisfied with our lodging other than Hotel Prielmayerhof in Linz. The rooms at that location were very disappointing. The furniture was very worn and the room lacked charm and simple amenities We were especially fond of Gasthof Lager for its rooms, food, and the friendliness of the host. We also loved the lodging and food at Schiffmeisterhaus in Ardagger as well as Hotel Sum Schwarzen Bären in Emmersdorf. We wished we could have stayed an extra night in Emmersdorf to take advantage of all that inn has to offer.
We had a few challenges following the instructions in our guide book. On Day 4 the reference to the rock slide and detour is located in the book on pg. 65 rather than on pg. 46 with the route instructions. I spoke to others on the same route from Rad Reisen who hadn?t even noticed this. I saw it but assumed, due to the location in the book that it was in reference to one of the sight seeing options because of where it was placed in the book. As a result of the confusion we all got off course and ended up with quite a long day of riding.
It would be helpful to have the river crossings on the maps marked in a way that make it obvious whether you are to cross on a bridge or by ferry. It seemed our confusions were mostly, if not all, related to river crossings.
At times markings on the maps would cover the name of the city. Pages 51 and 60 in our book are examples of that,
