Day 1: Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Individual arrival in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. You should definitely plan some time for exploring the famous old town centre and seeing the many historical buildings of Rothenburg. In the evening you can even go on a tour with the night watchman (included) through the prettily lit alleys. You spend the night in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Day 2: Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Herrieden, approx. 54 km
You set on the bike tour through the quiet countryside of the upper Altmühl valley. You bike through lovely landscapes and picturesque farming villages. You pass Leutershausen, home of Gustav Weißkopf who built the first motorised plane ever and you can visit a museum and monument in his honour. Finally you arrive in Herrieden. The city’s landmark is a stork because they have been nesting on towers and breeding here for centuries.

Day 3: Herrieden – Weißenburg / Treuchtlingen, approx. 53 / 56 km
Via Gunzenhausen you make your way to Markt Berolzheim. Alongside the Altmühl you continue to Treuchtlingen, where you can relax in the Altmühl Baths. Alternatively, you leave the Altmühl just before Markt Berolzheim and take the direct route to Weißenburg. You spend the night in Weißenburg or Treuchtlingen.

Day 4: Weißenburg / Treuchtlingen – Eichstätt, approx. 53 / 43 km
Treuchtlingen is the beginning of the most spectacular area you pass on this tour. The shimmering white Dolomite rocks which rise out of the forested hills are an amazing sight. You take the romantic bike trail to Pappenheim and on to Solnhofen. In a nearby quarry the famous Archaeopterix fossils were found. You spend the night in Eichstätt, where a walk from the “Residenzplatz” to Willibaldsburg Castle is recommended. Individual departure or extension of your stay.

Variant: Eichstätt – Regensburg 4 nights

Day 1: Eichstätt
Individual arrival. The historic Old-Town and the modern architecture, bishop’s- and university place: The city in the middle of the nature park Altmühl valley has a lot of different faces. A walk from the "Residenzplatz" to Willibaldsburg Castle is recommended. Too, the nature in the surroundings invites you to experience relaxed holidays.

Day 2: Eichstätt – Beilngries, approx. 45 km
Today you can choose from a large variety of interesting sights, such as the remnants of an old Roman fort, a romantic castle, the extensive nature protection area "Gungoldinger Wachholderheide" or Hirschberg Castle. Later you arrive in Beilngries, where you spend the night. The town is located in the middle of forested hills, at the meeting point of the rivers Sulz and Altmühl and boasts a historical town centre with bourgois town houses and a well preserved old city wall.

Day 3: Beilngries – Kelheim, approx. 59 km
After visiting the water gate on the Main-Danube Canal you make your way towards Dietfurt, the "City of 7 Valleys". Dietfurt is a good example of regional architecture with its medieval town wall. In Riedenburg there are two possibilities to cycle further on: Continue to Bad Gögging, relax in the "Limestherme" and spend the night here, before heading to Kelheim in the next morning or go directly to Kelheim without passing Bad Gögging. Please let us know which option you prefer when booking. You spend the night in Bad Gögging or Kelheim.

Day 4: Kelheim – Regensburg, approx. 37 km
From Kelheim you cycle alongside the Danube via Weltenburg to Regensburg. The "Danube Gorge" can be explored by ship (not incl. in the price). Regensburg is a treasure of occidental (art) history and boasts over 1500 historical buildings. Go for a stroll through narrow alleys and across pretty town squares, past the famous Stone Bridge and St. Peter’s Cathedral. You spend the night in Regensburg. Individual departure or extension.

Visit the lock of the Rhine-Main-Danube canal at Dietfurt. To shorten the distance to approx. 55 km it is possible to reserve a transfer on site (organized by yourself, details with the travel documents).

Day 6: Riedenburg – Regensburg, approx. 65 km
An imposing spectacel of nature is the Danube breakthrough at Weltenburg. Regenburg with its medieval cityscape stands for a momument of two thousand year of art and cultural history. Take a walk through the tiny streets and places, the famous stone bridge and the cathedral St. Peter.

The overnight stay is either in Bad Gögging (only possible for cat. A), where you can enjoy the famous Limes Therme, or in Kelheim, where you can visit the imposing Befreiungshalle on the Michelsberg. Please let us know which option you prefer when booking.

Day 7: region Kelheim – Regensburg, approx. 40 - 45 km
From or via Kelheim you cycle alongside the Danube via Weltenburg to Regensburg. The "Danube Gorge" can be explored by ship (not incl. in the price). Day 8: Straubing – Deggendorf, approx. 40 km
Starting in Straubing via Danube valley and the Irlbacher Durch das beschauliche Donautal und den Irlbacher forest until you reach Bogen. Passing Mariaposching to Deggendorf which is the end for today.

Day 9: Deggendorf – Passau, approx. 60 km
Start you bike tour with a visit at the Benedictine Monastery (12. century) via Winzer to Vilshofen. Take a rest there in the most beautiful beer garden in this surrounding. Tour ends in Passau.

Arrival by car

Parking: unguarded parking place or  unguarded hotel garage, approx. € 5-20,- per day, reservation necessary, payable locally! Coaches will need a permission! Information here.

Take Highway A7 Würzburg - Ulm to Rothenburg. Take exit 108 “Rothenburg / Tauber” and follow the signposts for the town center. After two kilometers you will come upon one of the car parks from which you can reach the old town on foot in just a few minutes. 

No motor vehicles permitted in the center of the old town from 7.00 p.m. - 6.00 a.m. Additional closures during festivals and celebrations.


Arrival by train

Train station: Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Travel to Würzburg or Ansbach and change there to a regional train via Steinach to Rothenburg. The historical old town can be reached on foot from the railway station in just a few minutes.
