Tour profile/ Level 1:

The quality of the cycle ways along the route is excellent. Most of the stretches are paved or asphalted, and lead alongside the Rhine dikes without any gradients of note. This makes the trip suitable even for unpractised cyclist.

Itinerary Cologne - Rotterdam

Day 1: Cologne
Individual arrival in Cologne. Embarkation will be between 3 and 5 p.m. Enjoy a cosy evening on board the ship or taste a Kölsch, a typical beer from Cologne, in one of the numerous Old Town pubs with view over the Rhine.

Day 2: Cologne - Düsseldorf, approx. 55 km
Cycle along the Rhine Cycle Route on well-paved cycle ways, past quaint villages and with view over the other bank of the Rhine. This route offers variety between industry and idyll. At the end of this tour leg, you reach Düsseldorf. The multifaceted city is one of the leading cultural metropolis’ in Germany.

Day 3: Düsseldorf - Xanten - Emmerich - Arnhem, approx. 30-35 km
Already at night your boat will move to Roman City of Xanten. Almost 2000 years ago the Romans liked this tiny place and settled here. The Archaeological Park is worth a visit. Here you start your today cycle tour, passing nature reserves and moving on to the village Kalkar until you reach the oldest German suspension bridge in Emmerich. Your ship is waiting here to go on and to pass the Dutch-German border and brings you to Arnheim.

Day 4: Arnhem - Rhenen - Wijk bij Duurstede, approx. 30 km
Today start for the cycle tour in Arnhem – a detour to the city centre will take you back to by gone days with narrow alleys and picturesque buildings. Continue cycling through the Betuwe – one of the Netherland’s largest fruit-growing regions, past dike foreland and reach Rhenen. In the evening, the ship will take you from Rhenen to Wijk bij Duurstede.

Day 5: Wijk bij Duurstede - Gorinchem, approx. 50 km
Enjoy your cycle tour through unspoilt nature and pass cute villages and the historic place of Fort Everding-en. Continue following the Linge River, a tributary of the Rhine to reach the fortified city of Gorinchem.

Day 6: Gorinchem - Dordrecht, approx. 37 km
On your way from Gorinchem to Dordrecht, you pass by the national park of De Biesbosch, a green maze of rivers with crystal clear water and small forested islands. It is one of the few tidal freshwater zones in the world.  At the end of the day, from the quietness of nature dive into the vivid city life of Dordrecht. The oldest city in the Holland area lies on an island bordered by large rivers and is characterised by numerous historic buildings, city ports and a fantastic atmosphere.

Day 7: Dordrecht - Rotterdam, approx. 40 km
On your last stretch, explore the best-known windmills in the Netherlands at Kinderdijk. The 19 windmills, which date back to the 18th century, are beautifully preserved and are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The windmills are well worth a visit! Follow the route along the Maas River up to Rotterdam, one of the largest ports in the world.

Day 8: Rotterdam
After breakfast, disembarkation until 9 a.m. Individual journey home.

Itinerary Rotterdam - Cologne

Day 1: Rotterdam
Individual arrival in Rotterdam. Embarkation between 3 and 5 p.m. Enjoy your first evening on board or have a stroll through the city of Rotterdam with Europe’s largest port.

Day 2: Rotterdam - Dordrecht, approx. 40 km
Cycle first along the Maas River until you reach Kinderdijk boasting the best-known windmills in the Netherlands. The 19 windmills, which date back to the 18th century, are beautifully preserved and are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue the cycle tour and after a short while, you reach today’s destination - Dordrecht. The oldest city in the Holland area is located on an island bordered by large rivers and is characterised by numerous historic buildings, city ports and a fantastic atmosphere.

Day 3: Dordrecht - Gorinchem, approx. 37 km

Day 4: Gorinchem – Wijk bij Duurstede - Rhenen, approx. 50 km
Leave the fortified city of Gorinchem and enjoy a bike ride through unspoilt nature. Follow the River Linge, a tributary of the Rhine, and you will reach Wijk bij Duurstede. Enjoy an evening Boat Tour to Rhenen.

Day 5: Rhenen - Arnhem - Emmerich, approx. 30 km
You cycle along the Lower Rhine and past the foreshore of the dike. Enjoy your Bike tour through the Betuwe – one of the Netherland’s largest fruit-growing regions. A detour to the city centre becomes a trip to bygone times with narrow lanes and picturesque buildings. In the night shipping from Arnhem to Emmerich by passing the Dutch-German border.

Day 6: Emmerich - Xanten - Düsseldorf, approx. 31 km
In Emmerich, start for today’s bike ride and cycle past the nature reserve of the Reeser Schanz to the Roman city of Xanten. The Archaeological Park is always worth a visit. Explore how the Romans lived and settles down 2000 years ago.

Day 7: Düsseldorf - Cologne, approx. 55 km
In the morning you will already have reached Düsseldorf from where you start your last cycle tour along the well-developed Rhine cycle path with a particularly attractive section where historic Old Towns and idyllic nature are interspersed with industrial heritage. The towns located directly on the Rhine, often boasting well pre-served medieval town walls and towers, are well worth a detour. Eventually reach the Cathedral city of Cologne where the vivid riverbank of the Rhine invites for a stay. Enjoy a cosy evening on board or have a Kölsch, the typical beer from Cologne, in one of the numerous pubs.

Day 8: Cologne
Disembarkation after breakfast until 9 a.m. and individual departure.

    Our bikes are state-of-the-art quality bikes based on proven brand quality of the bicycle manufactory Velo de Ville. All Velo de Ville bikes use only braking systems from renowned manufacturers such as Magura or Shimano. Minimum body height for our rental bikes: 1.50 m

    The following rental bikes (including pannier) are available for you:

    E-bikes | Electrical bikes | Pedeclecs

    We provide you with modern quality e-bikes (pedelecs) with Nexus 8-speed hub gears, gradually selectable aid of pedaling power, puncture-proof tires and deep UNISEX comfort entry. The electric bikes from Velo de Ville are equipped exclusively with Bosch mid-mounted motors and fully integrated 500 Wh Bosch batteries. The design of the batteries allows them to almost disappear into the frame. This gives you better weight distribution and a low center of gravity without missing the convenience of easy entry. You save your battery by starting with as low a support as possible and increasing as needed. Please note that with the newer models of our e-bikes it is not possible to attach handlebar bags due to the additional fixed speedometers and wider handlebars.

    IMPORTANT: Please reserve ebikes early, as they are only available in very limited numbers.


    Breakdowns

    Bicycle breakdowns can happen, also when bikes are well serviced and maintained, flats can be fixed by yourself. If there’s a difficult repair, you may call the local representative. Please don´t get any repairs done on the bike without informing the touroperator/local representative and their approval.


    Own Bikes

    If you bring your own bicycle, please pay attention to the following aspects: You are personally responsible for your own bike on board and ashore. Protect your bike against theft on board, as well as on land with a lock. The bikes will be brought on board and from board by the crew. Due to the local conditions we cannot prevent scratches and damages on the bikes. Please understand that we cannot accept any liability. The bikes on board are exposed to weather conditions because the parking is not covered. Please bring along your own spare material and repair kit for your bike.

    ARRIVAL BY PLANE

    Airport: Cologne (CGN), Rotterdam (RTM)

    From Cologne/Bonn airport to the mooring place it is approx. 15 km (approx. 15 min. per taxi, approx. 30-35 €, depending on traffic). Alternatively, from the airport to Cologne Central Station by train (approx. 15 min./ € 3,- per person).

    From Rotterdam airport to the mooring place it is approx. 7 km by taxi (approx. € 35,-).

    ARRIVAL BY CAR

    Parking:
    Cologne: Car park/ parking garage - Globus Parking garage (guarded, must be booked in advance) - approx. 6 km from the mooring place in Cologne. Parking fee approx. € 90,- to € 110,- per week. Reservation can be made » here

    Rotterdam: due to high parking costs we recommend to arrive to Rotterdam by train. Alternatively, there are Park & Ride parking places located out of town, which are connected to the city center by public transport.


    ARRIVAL BY TRAIN

    Train station: Cologne, Rotterdam

    Travelling time between Cologne and Rotterdam is approx. 3 hours by train (with changing, costs 50-60 € per person). Please find schedules and prices here.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    Own bike: On request only - due to lack of space on sundeck. Storage of bikes inside the ship is not possible.

    We ask you to refrain from bringing hard cover luggage, because storage space in the cabins is very limited.

    Schedule- and programme changes: The schedule and programme are always subject to change. If a certain route cannot be taken due to high or low tides, the Skipper retains the right to change the route for reasons of safety without this constituting any legal entitlement to a claim. Because your boat will generally dock at the next port on the same day, your time frame for some activities and sightseeing will be limited. Due to a very low overhead clearance of some bridges the sundeck will be closed from time to time.

    Travel documents: EU-citizens (without special situations) need a valid personal ID or passport!

    Special dietary: requests will be respected as far as possible. Please inform us on booking. Price € 25,- per person/week.

    Flat ride

    The terrain on this trip is very flat, often along the top of dikes. This leaves you exposed to the sun and any wind which may be blowing. We had to reroute several times due to the low water this year requiring the ship to moor at locations different ...
