Cycling through the centuries
This cycling tour is different from others we have done in as much as here are few people and few villages. The scenery makes it worth while. It is hot, dry and dusty in September and there are many hills so electric bikes are a clear benefit.
The tour was well organised from Vienna as well as from Cyprus. One little mishap was sorted out without problems and we were compensated with a dinner with a local family which we very much enjoyed. The accommodation was good everywhere apart from the British Hotel in Kyrenia, mainly because of the staff who was bored and uninterested.
The map from Kurova to Dipkarpas takes you through a very rough and steep section. Our Cypriotic organiser suggested we take the main road instead which was a very good idea. The map should be adjusted here.
Also, day eight and nine, take you along the northern coast which is very beautiful but a lot of the time you cycle on the main highway with a lot of traffic. Attempts have been made to take you off this road whenever possible and that is much appreciated but the highway is not nice.
Overall the trip was much enjoyed and we would do something similar again. A day or two in Famagusta and Nicosia before and after the tour enhances your understanding of this country with a long and complicated history.
