Loire 2023
Not quite up to the standard we?ve been used to from Rad und Reisen
We’ve travelled with Rad und Reisen several times before and been very satisfied. This time (’’Castles of the Loire Valley’’, starting on 8 September 2023) we weren?t quite so happy. The main problem was some of the hotels. We had upgraded to Category A, but at both Chenonceaux (La Roseraise) and Blois (Hotel le Monarque) it seemed that the smallest (and probably cheapest) room in the entire hotel had been reserved for us. Not good enough! One wonders what the Category B hotels were like. Also, at Chinon (Hotel Plantagenet) the restaurant capacity was clearly inadequate - we had to wait a full hour merely to place our order. Some further advice: In some cases the travel documents could have indicated alternative routes. We wondered why on our way out of Tours, on day 2, we were directed off the marked cycle path onto what was not a very interesting area of factories and warehouses. And on day 6, from Chenonceaux to Blois, we found a much shorter route than the one indicated in the travel documents, which we preferred because of the rather unpleasant weather we had on that day. These are improvements you should introduce into the programme for what was otherwise a very enjoyable bike tour.
