A cycling vacation in Southern Styria is a very special cycle tour that will delight every connoisseur’s heart: Culturally, you start in Graz, European Capital of Culture 2003 and City of Design. Whether at the beginning or end of the tour - a stroll through the old town is a must. The cycle tour continues along the rivers Mur and Sulm until you reach the beautiful Schilcherland. Here you can experience pure nature. Many untouched spots are waiting to be conquered and offer a unique natural spectacle. A detour to Maribor in Slovenia also offers cyclists interested in culture an exciting change of pace.

Along the South Styrian Wine Route, wine tasting is of course a must and a visit to the seed oil mills and a tasting are also part of the program. Compare Schilchwein and the delicious white wines of southern Styria. A cycle tour that will impress you!

Route

Tour profile/ level 2

The signposted and asphalted bikepaths are flat to slightly hilly along rivers, with longer inclines in the "Schilcherland" and the south styrian "Weinstraße". For this tour, we do recommend an e-bike.

Day 1: Graz

Individual arrival in Graz. Let your day start smoothly and enjoy the charming and expressive city.

Day 2: Graz – Stainz, approx. 45 km

Archduke Johann is still admired as a great styrian. Visit the palace with its hunting museum and the wine house in Stainz. In 1229 there already existed a church which was extended to an impressive monastery. In 1840 it was owned by the archduke Johann and is still in the hands of his descendants, the earls of Meran. A very special experience is a ride with the "Flascherlzug" - a very old local train to Preding and back (not included).

Day 3: Stainz – Eibiswald, approx. 45 km

Today, the tour will bring you directly into the heart of the "Schilcherweinland". Schilcher - thats a distinct Rosé made from indigenous "Blauer Wildbacher" grape. A varied tour through idyllic villages and small forests until you reach Eibswald.

Day 4: Eibiswald – Leutschach, approx. 50 km

After a short detour to Eibiswald you continue the tour to the eastbound - through the picturesque scenery and small villages. The unique vineyards of the famous "South Styrian wine route" accompany you on your way to Leutschach, where you will have the 2 following overnights stays.

Day 5: Leutschach – Maribor, approx. 45 km

Today you cycle a short distance along the border until you cross into Slovenia. Along the Drava cycle path you reach the beautiful town of Maribor. Take a look at the oldest vine in the world and stroll through the picturesque old town.

Day 6: Maribor – Leibnitz, approx. 50 km

Through picturesque landscapes and small villages, you return to Austria to the wine town of Leibnitz. Leibnitz with its beautiful old town is considered the gateway to the South Styrian Wine Route.

Day 7: Leibnitz – Graz, approx. 50 km

You can take it easy as you cycle back to Graz along the Mur Cycle Path, passing colorful villages, through shady riparian forests and past lush fields. If your legs are already tired, this route can also be covered by train.

Day 8: Graz

Individual departure or extension.
