Denmark and Sweden by Bike + Boat

Island dream in the Öresund

Map

Route

Level 2

The cycling routes are not very long, but some of them have slightly hilly sections. Some half-paved gravel roads, otherwise well passable bike paths.

Day 1: Copenhagen

Individual arrival, embarkation and check in on board from 5:30 pm. Afterwards you will receive a welcome drink and your first dinner on the ship. After dinner, the tour guide will explain the itinerary and safety measures.

Day 2: Copenhagen – Helsingør, approx. 48 km

You start the day with your first cycle tour, which takes you out of Copenhagen and into the idyllic Öresund. You might spot a ship passing you as you cycle along the coast. Inland, the route takes you through wooded areas and secluded villages. About 10 kilometres before Elsinore, your destination today, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is well worth a visit. Elsinore itself impresses with its historic town centre, the street market and the imposing Kronborg Castle.

Day 3: Helsingør – Hornbaek – Esrum – Helsingborg, approx. 28-45 km

After breakfast you cycle along the coast to the small harbour of Hornbaek. You then cycle inland through a slightly hilly landscape to Esrum and the associated Lake Esrum. Back in Helsigör, you board the boat and sail across the narrow strait to the Swedish coast. Today’s destination is the beautiful city of Helsingborg.

Day 4: Helsingborg – Landskrona – Ven, approx. 28+10 km

In the morning, the cycle route takes you through picturesque old fishing villages to the fortified town of Landskrona. After lunch, you cross over to the island of Ven by ferry. The tiny island (only about 7.5 km²) is a real jewel of the Öresund. Discover small cafés, artisans, the wiskey distillery or the observatory on a round trip. The harbour does not offer enough space for our large ship, which is why you will be picked up by dinghy in the afternoon and will spend the night anchored off the coast.

Day 5: Sailing day from Ven to Køge or Rødvig

Enjoy a day on board today as the ship takes you across the Öresund from the island of Ven to Koge (or a little further to Rodvig, depending on weather conditions). Between these two places lie the imposing limestone cliffs of Stevns Klint, reminiscent of the island of Rügen. On clear nights, the night sky can be observed wonderfully here in the ‘dark sky area’.

Day 6: Stevns Klint + boat trip to Malmö, approx. 30-58 km

Depending on where you anchored last night, today’s tour will either take you from Rodvig via the limestone cliffs of Stevns Klint to Koge (approx. 30 km) or you can explore the cliffs from Koge on a round trip (58 km). Your boat will then take you on an evening cruise to Malmö.

Day 7: City tour or Malmö surroundings, approx. 26-49 km

The short half-day tour takes you past various highlights in the city centre and through Malmö’s outskirts to a breathtaking view of the Öresund Bridge and the city. In the afternoon you have time to explore Malmö on your own. The longer, full-day tour on quiet country roads takes you to the lively university town of Lund, one of Sweden’s oldest cities with a history stretching back over 1000 years. Back in Malmö, you will enjoy a farewell dinner with the captain.

Day 8: Malmö

End of the trip. Breakfast until 9:30 am, then farewell and disembarkation.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The travel program and itinerary are subject to possible changes for nautical, technical or meteorological reasons or due to other unforeseen events. The captain determines the best route each day and discusses the options with his guests. Departure times and the order of the program may therefore vary.

In some places the ship cannot dock in the harbor due to its draught (islands Ven and Mon, Rodvig), there you will be taken ashore by dinghy.
