The cycling tour from Linz to Vienna is an exciting and diverse experience. You begin this five-day variaton in the Upper-Austrian state capital of Linz. Explore the city with the bright yellow Linz City-Express (not included) and/or ride the steepest mountain railway in Europe, built in 1898, up the Pöstling Mountain. The cycling starts by riding through the wild Strudengau and the baroque village of Grein with the oldest city theatre in Austria. The enchanting Wachau is a landscape of vineyards, apricot trees, small towns and mysterious castles. Don’t forget to taste the renowned Austrian wine or spritzers! At the crowning conclusion of this grand cycling tour, you are going to discover the city of Vienna with its numerous and charming attractions, not to mention the welcoming cafes and lively culture.

Route

The cycling path is completely paved from one end to the other, flat, almost always directly along the riverbank and very suitable for beginners and children.

Individual arrival. Explore the spirited city on your own: How about a ride with the Linz City Express (not included) or a visit to one of the beer gardens and/or wine taverns? Linz is a city of contrasting parallels full of traditional Austrian heritage and vibrant Contemporary Arts and is the European Culture Capital of 2009. Enjoy!

Passing through the beautiful Mostviertel, you cycle on to Grein. Shortly before reaching Grein, the Danube valley narrows as you cycle through the fascinating landscape of the Strudengau. In the small baroque village of Grein you can find the oldest city theatre in Austria as well as a great Maritime Museum.

You will cycle through the impressive landscapes of the wild Strudengau and the Nibelungengau continuing on to the remarkable Wachau (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Region).

Follow the Danube through the gorgeous landscapes of the Wachau on your way to the 1000-year-old winery city of Krems. Observe and enjoy the exceptional gothic architecture. From here, sit back and relax by taking a comfortable train ride to the Danube metropolis, Austrian capital and city of the Waltz, Vienna.

Before leaving Vienna, make sure to visit the famous Naschmarkt (international foods/goods) and/or stop by the beautiful imperial castle Schönbrunn. The train ride is provided back to Linz (personal bike with surcharge), or of course you can extend your stay in Vienna.

E-Bikes are a great opportunity for people with different fitness level to take on a bike holiday together. With e-bikes every tour is a delight!

Please note: E-Bikes are very popular. As there is limited availybility please reserve your bikes early!

Bicycle breakdowns

It can happen even with new wheels and by best servicing. With the rental bikes you will receive repair vouchers which you can present in our authorised workshops along the way. Should a repair not be possible, please contact our service number! In a few hotels/guest houses we have some bikes on stock if you need to change them during the trip.

Private bicycles

You are welcome to bring your own bicycle. It is adapted especially to your needs. Do not forget to bring a repair kit with all necessary tools such as: keys, reserve tube and lock. Please check your own bicycle for operability upon arrival.

Valid for danube cycle path: For the return journey to Passau we recommend the reservation of the bus transfer or the train ride - some trains offer bicycle-parking possibilities, however those are limited and a reservation is necessary.

Parking garage near the train station for approx. € 11,- per day (public, guarded). For reservation please contact the garage directly in advance.

Train station: Passau, Linz, Vienna
A train ticket from Vienna train station West or main train station to Linz is included in the tourprice. It can be used at the beginning or at the end of the tour.

Very enjoyable tour
