Children love family cycle tours! What is nicer than cycling with the parents and grandparents along the beautiful River Danube Cycle Path?

The short daily stages are easy for the kids to manage. Along the cycle tour, great adventures wait for you: castles, boats, mermaids and the fairytale world at Pöstlingberg in Linz. You can also stop at the Danube beaches for an enjoyable break.

Route

Tour profile / level 1:

The cycling path is completely paved from one end to the other, flat, almost always directly along the riverbank and very suitable for beginners and children.

Day 1: Passau

Arrive with your family for your cycle holiday along the Danube Cycle Path. Check-in, handover of your travel documents and you receive your rental bikes in our bike centre. Enjoy a stroll through the beautiful old town of Passau and the ships in the pier arouse enthusiasm by the grown-ups and kids.

Day 2: Passau – Niederranna/sourroundings, approx. 15 km + ship ride Passau – Kasten

After breakfast enjoy the boat trip from Passau to Kasten, where your cycle tour starts. After a few kilometres you see the mermaid, called Isa and we recommend a visit of the water adventure world “Haus am Strom” in Engelhartszell.

Day 3: Niederranna/sourroundings – Obermühl, approx. 20 km

Soon, you reach the world famous “Schlögener Schlinge”, where the River Danube made its way in millenniums through the hard granite rock in a S loop. Fortresses and ruins flank the wooded hills and emboss the scenery. Family tip: Walk to the viewpoint of the “Schlögener Schlinge”.

Day 4: Obermühl – Eferding, approx. 20 km

As soon as you leave behind the Upper Danube Valley, the fertile Eferdinger Becken spreads out before you. Vegetable & fruit areas under cultivation line up along the cycle path and we recommend tasting the piquant Essiggurkerl or the delicious asparagus specialities. Family tip: the ruin Schaunberg revives the knight’s time.

Day 5: Eferding – Linz, approx. 20 km + train ride Ottensheim – Linz

Leisurely you cycle along the south side of the Danube Cycle Path up to power station in Ottensheim, where you cycle to the other side of the river. From Ottensheim you take the train to Linz. Family tip: Visit the fairytale world at Pöstlingberg in Linz.

Day 6: Linz

Return by train to Passau (ticket included)

    Bicycle breakdowns

    It can happen even with new wheels and by best servicing. With the rental bikes you will receive repair vouchers which you can present in our authorised workshops along the way. Should a repair not be possible, please contact our service number! In a few hotels/guest houses we have some bikes on stock if you need to change them during the trip.

    Private bicycles

    You are welcome to bring your own bicycle. It is adapted especially to your needs. Do not forget to bring a repair kit with all necessary tools such as: keys, reserve tube and lock. Please check your own bicycle for operability upon arrival.

    Valid for danube cycle path: For the return journey to Passau we recommend the reservation of the bus transfer or the train ride - some trains offer bicycle-parking possibilities, however those are limited and a reservation is necessary.

    Rental bike disclaimer

    If a traveller rents a  bike, he is basically liable for damages and theft. When booking our rental bike disclaimer, we assume liability so that in case of loss or damage to the rental bike (when properly used and secured) no financial responsibility must be paid. Excluded from this are only lost keys, batteries and chargers of e-bikes, as well as damage due to intent or gross negligence.

    Arrival - Parking - Departure

    Arrival by plane

    Airports: Munich (MUC), Salzburg (SZG), Linz (LNZ), Vienna (VIE)
    Train connections with 1-2 changes from Vienna Airport to Passau (travel time: approx. 3 hours). A ticket from Linz to Passau is included in this tour, this can be used from Vienna Airport for a surcharge.

    Arrival by car

    Unfortunately you can not park your car free of charge in Passau. However there are varios possibilities for parking your car during your holiday - please note parking expenses have to be paid on the spot.

    It is possible to park your car in the Globus Parking Garage which is located near our bike handover.Acceptance times for cars from 12 to 3 pm!

    Arrival by train

    Train stations: Passau, Munich, Salzburg, Linz, Vienna
    A train ticket from Linz to Passau is included in the tourprice. It can be used at the beginning or at the end of the tour.

    The actual timeable and prices you will find via Deutsche Bahn or ÖBB.

    Transfer

    Private transfer from Munich airport see "Dates and Prices".

    Taxi Munich airport – Freising train station (approx. € 25,-), train ride Freising – Passau (Bavarian ticket: 1. person € 27,-. Each further person € 9,- up to 5 people)
