Main and the Bavarian region by Bike + Boat

Aschaffenburg-Bamberg / Bamberg-Aschaffenburg

Route

Flat routes along the well-developed Main Cycle Route. On some days, you can choose between a shorter and a longer cycle route. Please note that if you choose the shorter option, you will not be able to visit all the highlights.

Day 1: Aschaffenburg
Individual arrival in Aschaffenburg and embarkation from 2:00 p.m. Explore the “Bavarian Nice” and end the evening in one of the many wine bars.

Day 2: Aschaffenburg – Freudenberg, approx. 48 km
The first stage of your tour takes you along either the right or left bank of the Main River towards Bürgstadt/Miltenberg. The route continues through pleasantly refreshing floodplain forests, along the Planeten-Radweg (Planet Cycle Path) and into Freudenberg, your destination for the day. The castle towers high above the town and promises breathtaking views.

Day 3: Freudenberg – Wertheim – Lohr, approx. 40-45 km
In the morning, the ship will take you to Wertheim, where today’s tour begins. Explore the old Franconian town of Wertheim before setting off on your journey through idyllic Main landscapes to Lohr. Lohr will enchant you with its typical half-timbered houses and charming old town.

Day 4: Lohr – Karlstadt – Würzburg, approx. 30 km
In the morning, the ship will take you to Karlstadt, which impresses with its 800-year-old buildings. Today’s bike tour takes you to Würzburg, where you will meet up with your ship again. Visit the Würzburg Residence (UNESCO World Heritage Site) or enjoy the view from the Marienburg Fortress.

Day 5: Würzburg – Kitzingen, approx. 40 km
Today you cycle from Würzburg to the wine-growing town of Kitzingen. Highlights along the way include the fertile Ochsenfurther Gau, Ochsenfurth with its lance towers, and Marktbreit with its magnificent town houses.

Day 6: Kitzingen – Dettelbach – Schweinfurt, approx. 40-60 km
Today you can choose between a shorter and a longer tour. First you will cycle to Dettelbach, a picturesque wine village, then to Schwarzach and on to Volkach, where you should not miss the pilgrimage church of St. Maria im Weingarten. Continuing along the increasingly narrow Main River and past numerous vineyards, the route finally leads to Schweinfurt.

Day 7: Schweinfurt – Haßfurt – Bamberg, approx. 35-40 km
The ship will take you to Haßfurt in the morning, and the tour begins: In Zell am Main, you will cross the border between wine and beer Franconia before reaching your final destination, Bamberg. Like Rome, Bamberg is built on seven hills, and the fishermen’s quarter “Little Venice” is reminiscent of Italian charm. A visit to a typical Franconian brewery rounds off your vacation along the Main River.

Day 8: Bamberg
Disembarkation by 9:30 a.m. and individual journey home.

Day 1: Bamberg
Individual arrival in Bamberg and boarding from 2:00 p.m. Explore the “Franconian Rome” and enjoy a cold beer in one of the breweries.

Day 2: Bamberg – Haßfurt – Schweinfurt, approx. 30-40 km
The ship will take you to Haßfurt in the morning. Explore the historic old town with its sacred buildings before starting your first bike tour. The route takes you to the former imperial city of Schweinfurt, which is located directly between two nature parks.

Day 3: Schweinfurt – Stammheim – Kitzingen, approx. 32-60 km
Today you cycle to Kitzingen, famous for its wine growing and the German Carnival Museum. Here, beer brewing and winegrowing traditions meet, which can be felt in the historic cellars and regional cuisine. Alternatively, you can stay on board to Stammheim and shorten the stage by approx. 25 km.

Day 4: Kitzingen – Würzburg, approx. 40 km
At the end of today’s stage is the impressive city of Würzburg with its numerous sights. Visit the Würzburg Residence (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Marienberg Fortress, or St. Kilian’s Cathedral. Würzburg also has a vibrant nightlife.

Day 5: Würzburg – Karlstadt – Lohr, approx. 30 km
In the morning, the ship sails to Karlstadt, whose buildings date back to the year 1200. Today’s bike tour takes you to Lohr, a town characterized by half-timbered houses, steeped in legends and fairy tales, and known as the home of Snow White.

Day 6: Lohr – Wertheim – Freudenberg, approx. 30 km
During breakfast, the ship will take you to Wertheim. The old royal seat with its imposing castle, historic market square, and probably the narrowest house in Franconia is the starting point for today’s bike tour. From here, you will continue to Freudenberg, where the castle towers high above the Main River.

Day 7: Freudenberg – Aschaffenburg, approx. 50 km
Highlights of today’s tour include Miltenberg with its old Mildenburg castle, the Planeten-Radweg (Planet Cycle Path), which provides information about the solar system, and the airy floodplain forest, which offers a pleasant change in summer temperatures. Finally, you will reach your final destination, Aschaffenburg. Round off your trip in one of the cozy wine bars.

Day 8: Aschaffenburg
Disembarkation by 9:30 a.m. and individual journey home.

Due to varying wind and weather conditions, as well as organizational necessities, we reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary.

Please keep in mind that the ship is both your hotel and a machine that needs to be maintained and operated - both during the day and at night. Noise due to operation is therefore unavoidable.
