Main, Rhine + Neckar by bike + boat

Frankfurt - Stuttgart / Stuttgart - Frankfurt

Itinerary

Route

Mostly well-developed long-distance cycle paths along flat river landscapes, mostly asphalted or finely graveled cycle paths, quiet side roads, gentle hills and occasional climbs must be mastered, ideal for sporty, active connoisseurs.

Day 1: Stuttgart/Bad Cannstatt – Lauffen
Individual arrival in Bad Cannstatt near Stuttgart. Boarding at 3:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., it’s time to cast off! Enjoy your first dinner cruise on the way from Bad Cannstatt to Lauffen am Neckar, home of the famous poet Friedrich Hölderlin and a traditional wine town.

Day 2: Lauffen – Bad Wimpfen, approx. 30 km
Enjoy a gentle start to your cycling tour. Spend the morning taking a short tour of this traditional wine-growing village. Cycle along the Neckar on well-maintained cycle paths through gentle river valleys, past vineyards and idyllic wine villages. Along the way, it’s worth stopping in one of the small wine villages, which attract visitors with their wine taverns and cozy places to stop for refreshments.

Day 3: Bad Wimpfen – Eberbach, approx. 45 km
After breakfast, you will cycle to the beautiful Stauffer town of Eberbach. Historic buildings, a picturesque old town, and mighty walls give the town, where tradition and customs live alongside modernity, a special flair. Afterwards, if you have the time, energy, and inclination, you can hike a section of the Neckarsteig trail towards Katzenbuckel (approx. 6 km one way to the mountain peak, approx. 650 m elevation gain). Or you can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the Neckar promenade.

Day 4: Eberbach – Heidelberg, approx. 34 km
Today’s route takes you via Hirschhorn and Neckarsteinach through the Odenwald forest to Heidelberg. Visible from afar, the ruins of Heidelberg Castle tower over the old town. Stroll across the famous Heidelberg sandstone bridge or through the winding alleys and dreamy squares of the old town. Tip: After climbing up on foot, enjoy the view from the Scheffelterrasse to Heidelberg Castle and down into the valley.

Day 5: Heidelberg – Worms, approx. 50 km
The Roman town of Ladenburg with its historic old town awaits you today on your way along the beautiful Neckar River to Worms. Take the opportunity for a short detour before you reach the “city of squares” Mannheim, where the Neckar and Rhine rivers meet. A little industry and natural idyll alternate during today’s bike tour. In the Nibelungen city, your destination for today, history is close at hand and omnipresent. There is much to discover in Worms!

Day 6: Worms – Nierstein – Mainz, approx. 37 km
You will now cycle directly along the Rhine on the Rhine Cycle Route to Nierstein. With almost 1,000 hectares of vineyards, Nierstein is the largest wine-growing community on the Rhine. Feel free to visit the historic town center with its medieval market square and noble houses. Perhaps there will be a little time left for a small wine tasting to round off an enjoyable day of cycling? In the early evening, your ship will leave Nierstein and take you to Mainz during dinner.

Day 7: Mainz – Frankfurt am Main, approx. 45 km
Last but not least, you will reach the third river of your three-river tour: you will start at the mouth of the Main and follow the Main Cycle Route through the Schwanheimer Düne nature reserve until you finally reach the financial metropolis of Frankfurt.

A city that combines warmth with spaciousness, where tradition meets modernity and every alleyway and every riverbank tells its own story – a melting pot of cultures, tastes, and innovations. You are invited to discover more than just the impressive skyline.

Day 8: Frankfurt am Main
Disembarkation from 9:00 a.m. and individual departure.

Day 1: Frankfurt am Main – Nierstein
Individual arrival in Frankfurt am Main. Boarding from 4:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., it’s time to cast off! Enjoy your first dinner cruise on the Main River as you travel to the Rhine. Your ship will moor for the night in idyllic Nierstein.

Day 2: Nierstein – Mannheim, approx. 60 km
With almost 1,000 hectares of vineyards, Nierstein is the largest wine-growing community on the Rhine. First, visit the historic town center with its medieval market square and noble houses. Cycle along the Rhine from Nierstein on the Rhine Cycle Route to the imperial city of Worms. The beautiful cycle path across Friesenheimer Insel later offers an impressive contrast to the BASF headquarters on the opposite bank of the Rhine. A few kilometers further on, you will reach the confluence of the Neckar and Rhine rivers near Mannheim, where your ship will be waiting for you. Perhaps you still have time for a detour through the “city of squares” to the baroque palace.

Day 3: Mannheim – Heidelberg, approx. 26 km
Today, follow the course of the beautiful Neckar River by bike to Heidelberg. The Roman town of Ladenburg with its historic old town is worth a short stop. Visible from afar, the ruins of Heidelberg Castle tower over the old town. Stroll across the famous Heidelberg Sandstone Bridge or through the winding alleys and dreamy squares of the old town.

Day 4: Heidelberg – Eberbach, approx. 34 km
Today you will cycle via Ziegelhausen and through the Odenwald to Neckarsteinach. The route continues via Hirschhorn to the stage destination, the old Staufer town of Eberbach. Stroll through the winding alleys and across the small squares and enjoy the cheerful life of the old Staufer town.

Day 5: Eberbach – Bad Wimpfen, approx. 45 km
Bad Wimpfen, the destination of today’s tour, is a medieval-looking dream town that was also home to Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa in 1182. Perhaps you would like to cycle to Hornberg Castle first. This castle is one of the most beautiful castles in the Neckar Valley, was the fiefdom of the bishops of Speyer after 1259, and was owned by Götz von Berlichingen in the 16th century.

Day 6: Bad Wimpfen – Lauffen – Bad Cannstatt, approx. 30 km
Today, you can enjoy a relaxed and enjoyable bike ride along the Neckar on well-maintained paths through gentle river valleys, past vineyards and idyllic wine villages. Along the way, it is worth stopping in one of the small wine villages, which attract visitors with their wine taverns and cozy places to stop for refreshments. The destination of today’s tour is Lauffen am Neckar – the home of the famous poet Friedrich Hölderlin and a real gem of the region. The charming old town with its half-timbered houses and wine tradition invites you to linger. A route full of nature, culture, and enjoyment – ideal for a relaxed day of cycling in the heart of the Neckar Valley.

Day 7: Stuttgart Rest day
Today is all about the capital of Baden-Württemberg. Discover the diverse surroundings of Stuttgart, for example through idyllic vineyards, green parklands, and charming suburbs.

Those who like to be active can climb the heights of the Stuttgart basin and be rewarded with sweeping views of the city, the Remstal valley, or the Swabian Alb. Whether you prefer a leisurely ride along the Neckar River or a more athletic tour through the vineyards, a bike tour around Stuttgart offers something for everyone and shows the city from its green and enjoyable side.

For those who prefer to leave their bikes behind, there is the opportunity to discover Stuttgart and its surroundings on a walking tour (optional). The Schlossplatz, the lively center of the city, Königsstraße, and the Staatsgalerie are not to be missed. Technology fans will get their money’s worth at the Mercedes-Benz Museum or the Porsche Museum (not included).

Day 8: Stuttgart / Bad Cannstatt
Disembarkation by 9:00 a.m. and individual journey home.

Due to changing wind and weather conditions as well as organizational requirements we reserve the right to make changes of routing and program.
