Lake Constance - Lake Königssee | 9 days

from the Swabian Sea to the Alpine jewel

Itinerary

Route

Continuous signage. Route mostly on quiet paved country roads, rarely on bike paths and agricultural roads. Near large cities on bike paths alongside roads. Hilly Alpine foothills with gentle and steep inclines.

Individual arrival in Lindau. You will love the old town with its narrow streets and the famous harbor with its lighthouse.

You say farewell to Lake Constance, the “Swabian Sea,” and cycle into the gently rolling hills of the Allgäu region. The impressive panorama of the Allgäu Alps accompanies you to the charming spa town of Oberstaufen.

The Großer Alpsee lake is perfect for swimming and leisurely walks along the shore. In Immenstadt, you can explore the historic old town before cycling on to Sonthofen, Germany’s southernmost town. The route then takes you along the Rottachsee lake and through the Primavera nature reserve to Nesselwang.

With views of Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg castles, the route continues to Hopfen am See. Füssen rises above the Lech River with its impressive old town. A detour to the famous royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau is a must. Passing Bannwaldsee Lake, you reach the Wieskirche church in Steingaden—a Baroque masterpiece and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Your route takes you through the Murnauer and Eschenloher Moos, always with a view of the Zugspitze, to Lake Kochel. Impressive works by the artist await you in the Franz Marc Museum. In Benediktbeuern, the onion domes of the 1,250-year-old Basilica of St. Benedict dominate the townscape. The route continues to Bad Tölz on the Isar, where the Kalvarienberg offers a magnificent view over the Isar Valley.

In Gmund, you can enjoy the fairytale view over Lake Tegernsee before continuing on to Lake Schliersee—surrounded by mountains and Bavarian hospitality. In Neuhaus, the open-air museum of former ski racer Markus Wasmeier invites you on an exciting journey through time.

Neubeuern lies at the entrance to the Inn Valley, framed by two city gates and a picturesque castle. In Siegsdorf, discover the Natural History and Mammoth Museum before continuing along the Traun River to Traunstein with its lively old town.

Gentle hills, rural traditions, and views of the Berchtesgaden Alps characterize the Rupertiwinkel region. Particularly worth seeing are Höglwörth Abbey on its island in the lake of the same name and the historic Old Salt Works in Bad Reichenhall. A detour to Königssee with its world-famous pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä is the perfect way to round off your trip.

The offered bikes are touring bikes with an aluminium frame and kitted with responsive brakes and gears. Plus: comfort gel saddles, flat-palmed grips, Schwalbe Marathon anti-puncture tyres. All bikes are equipped with a pannier (saddle bag) and a handlebar bag/per room.
