Munich Lakes 8 days

Tradition, Idyll and Metropolitan Flair

Itinerary

Route

You cycle on well-marked and paved cycle paths (Isar-, Lake Constance-Königssee- and Via Bavarica Tyrolensis-cycle paths) as well as on quiet side roads (only on short sectors on main roads) and a few unpaved but well drivable distances. A few short climbs can be overcome easily sliding.
Individual arrival in the Bavarian capital, which lure visitors from around the world with many attractions. Especially worth seeing is the English garden with its Chinese tower, the church Frauenkirche, the Nymphenburg Palace and the square Marienplatz. Let’s visit one of the many Bavarian beer gardens and enjoy the hospitality and the Bavarian flair while drinking a beer in a 1l-mug (so called “Maß”).

Your first cycling stage takes you southwest of Munich via Lake Wessling and Lake Pilsen to Lake Ammer, the third largest lake in Bavaria. Treat yourself to a short break in Herrsching to enjoy the fantastic view of the lake. Passing Andechs Monastery, you will reach Lake Starnberg. Those who prefer to take it easy can also cycle directly to Lake Starnberg.

Along the east side of Lake Starnberg, the route passes the votive church dedicated to King Ludwig II. Shortly after Seeshaupt, you will reach Bernrieder Park with Bernried Monastery. One highlight is Roseninsel (Rose Island), once visited by Empress Sisi. The promenades on the west side invite you to stroll, and the lake invites you to swim. Back in Starnberg, you should visit the Starnberger See Museum. Alternatively, you can take a boat trip to Seeshaupt on your own and cycle back on the west side.

Cycle along the eastern side of Lake Starnberg to Berg. A little further south, near the votive chapel at Berg Castle, you will find the cross commemorating the death of Bavaria’s King Ludwig II. Shortly before Seeshaupt, a beer garden and a beautiful beach beckon. Murnau am Staffelsee and Seehausen are located in the picturesque foothills of the Alps and are the heart of the Blue Land.

Turquoise rivers, Caribbean-like lakes, and mystical moorlands can be found in the beautiful south of Bavaria in the Isarwinkel region. Famous artists such as Franz Marc and Gabriele Münter once lived here and immortalized the picturesque area in their famous paintings. Enjoy a magnificent view of the picturesque Kochelsee lake before the onion domes of the Benediktbeuren Basilica greet you from afar. The Isar town of Bad Tölz enchants with its historic buildings and market street.

Enjoy the picturesque landscape on a short bike ride to Lake Tegernsee. Once there, you can enjoy freshly prepared specialties and relax on the lawn before heading back to Bad Tölz. Alternatively, you can cycle around Lake Tegernsee (+ 20 km).

Cycle along the Isar Cycle Path to Munich through the idyllic landscape of Upper Bavaria. The Pupplinger Au on the banks of the Isar is the perfect place to take a break and enjoy nature, while the beer gardens invite you to stop for a bite to eat. Grünwald Castle stands on the high banks, offering a magnificent view over the Isar Valley. The route takes you back to Munich through floodplain forests and past Hellabrunn Zoo.

Following bikes are available:

  • Unisex bike with Nuvinci transmission
  • E-Bikes

The NuVinci CVT special gear system (correspond to a 27 speed bike) uses a set of rotating balls and also tilting balls in a transmission. Tilting the balls changes their contact diameters and varies the speed ratio. As a result, the NuVinci CVT system offers seamless and continuous transition to any ratio within its range.

The offered bikes are touring bikes with an aluminium frame and kitted with responsive brakes and gears. Plus: comfort gel saddles, flat-palmed grips, Schwalbe Marathon anti-puncture tyres. All bikes are equipped with a pannier (saddle bag) and a handlebar bag/per room.

E-bikes | Electrical bikes | Pedelecs

With an electro bike every bike tour is a breeze! If you had few opportunities to cycle over the last weeks or if you are not sure concerning your fitness, but also with physical disabilities, every bike ride is a treat! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern E-bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times ... So you can now book a bike tour together with cyclists who have different fitness level. Acclivity can be handled easily.
