Weser Cycle Path - Pied Pipers and Musicians

Never too old for fairytales

Itinerary

Route

The Weser Bicycle Trail runs mostly along roads with little traffic as well as traffic-free, paved bike paths and farm roads. There are only minor elevation changes to navigate, so this bike tour is highly recommended for beginners, groups, and families with children.

After you arrive on your own, the orientation session and bike pickup (if booked) will take place in Hann. Münden in the late afternoon. In this “City of Three Rivers,” the Fulda and Werra rivers converge at the Weserstein to form the Weser. Over 700 restored half-timbered houses spanning six centuries make up Hann. Münden’s Old Town. Hann. Münden’s town hall is considered one of the most beautiful examples of Weser Renaissance architecture.

Your bike tour should start at the Weserstein – right where the Werra and Fulda rivers “meet.” Passing through Hemeln and by the former Benedictine monastery in Bursfelde, this stage leads to the Baroque Huguenot town of Bad Karlshafen. With its charming, renovated Baroque-style houses, the center of Bad Karlshafen offers an interesting contrast to the typical half-timbered idyll. You’ll spend the night either in Bad Karlshafen or Beverungen.

There are numerous highlights along today’s route: the town of Fürstenberg with its porcelain factory and the old Hanseatic city of Höxter with more than 160 historic buildings, mostly half-timbered houses. Corvey Castle, the former imperial abbey near Höxter, offers a charming blend of art and culture. The small town of Beverungen has retained much of its historic character. Holzminden is known for the production of aromatic essences and perfume oils. Overnight stay in Holzminden/Bodenwerder.

Many a romantic village along the way invites you to linger. The charming little town of Bodenwerder became known for the world-famous Baron Münchhausen, the “Lying Baron.” Hamelin, the town of the Pied Piper, captivates visitors with its well-preserved old town, wonderful half-timbered houses, and buildings in the typical Weser Renaissance style from the 16th and 17th centuries. Overnight stay in Hamelin/Rinteln.

Near Porta Westfalica, the river cuts through the Wiehen and Weser Mountains and reaches the North German Plain. Along the way, the small 13th-century town of Rinteln features numerous examples of Weser Renaissance architecture. Minden was once a thriving trading city in the Middle Ages but was heavily damaged during World War II. It was rebuilt as part of an exemplary urban renewal project. Overnight stay in Minden.

Here the landscape changes as you enter the Northern German lowlands. Try following the bear tracks through Nienburg’s old city, for a unique way to see the historical sights.

On this leg, your ride takes you through little villages filled with red brick houses before you arrive in Verden, famous for its horses. Photo opportunities abound among the broad meadows, windmills, and occasional farmhouses.

Away from the streets and through park-like areas, the Weser Cycle Path leads you car-free into downtown Bremen. As the second-largest North Sea port, the city plays a major role in shipping and overseas trade. Highlights include the Schnoor district, the Roland statue, and the monument to the Bremen Town Musicians.

Your cycling vacation ends in Bremen. Individual return trip in the afternoon or extension (see below)

Bicycles inclusive panniers

7-speed bikes with Shimano NEXUS hub gear OR 21-speed bikes with Shimano ALIVIO chain circuit with light, luggage rack, fenders, service set with tool and spare hose, air pump and number lock.

PLUS bikes: ideal for sporty cyclists and those who love a lot of comfort. The wheels have a comfortable gel saddle and a gear for more accurate, faster shifting. Other highlights include the Shimano hydraulic disc brakes for improved braking performance and particularly gentle suspension.

All bikes are equipped with a rear rack pannier (saddle bag) and a handlebar bag/per room.

E-bikes | Electric bikes | Pedelecs

By popular demand, we have now invested in a considerable number of e-bikes, much favoured by cyclists who love the great Outdoors, but prefer to let the bike take the strain. With an electro bike every bike tour is a breeze! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern E-bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times. Acclivity can be handled easily.

Please note that it is not possible to attach handlebar bags to the newer models of our e-bikes due to the additional fixed speedometers and wider handlebars.

IMPORTANT: please reserve e-bikes early as they are only available in very limited numbers.
