Lanzarote: Cycle tour in the land of volcanoes

Discover the island of eternal spring

Itinerary

Route

Tour profile / level 2-3

Terrain is undulating and at times flat. One short but steep climb on Day 7. Distances are not excessive, and 2 free days are included where the rider decides whether to cycle or not.

Please note: Due to the trade winds, the Canary Islands, which include Lanzarote, have a constant wind all year round. The prevailing wind direction is N-NE and the wind strength is concentrated in the summer months when the trade winds are at their strongest.

Day 1: Costa Teguise

Transfer from the airport to the hotel included. This day is free to enjoy the beach resort of Costa Teguise.

Day 2: Costa Teguise – Haría, approx. 33 - 51 km

Today you ride from Costa Teguise to the inland town of Haría. A variety of routes is available. En route you will have the opportunity to visit Manrique’s famous works such as La Cueva de los Verdes, Los Jameos del Agua, El Mirador del Río which form an integral part of the volcanic landscape. You take in fishing villages without losing sight of the impressive Monte Corona. Finally you arrive in the picturesque village of Haría surrounded by its uncountable palm trees.

Day 3: Haría – Teguise, approx. 33 - 52 km

From Haría, you take the road down towards Teguise, the one-time capital of the island. The route gives you spectacular views down over the coast. Teguise itself is a delightful small town with typical architecture and many pleasant bars for refreshment. From here you continue towards San Bartolomé and the fascingating wine-producing area of La Geria to a country hotel where you spend the next two nights in or near Teguise

Day 4: Teguise roundtrip, approx. 50 km

Today is a free day spent in our rural hotel. You can choose to relax, or enjoy a round ride, or even both. The round tour takes you towards the beautiful beach of Famara with the spectacular backdrop of volcanic cliffs. After following the coast, you head across extensive lava fields and a lunar landscape back to San Bartolomé.

Day 5: Teguise – Playa Blanca, approx. 50 km

From San Bartolomé you head towards the island’s main attraction, the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya. This is where Lanzarote’s volcanic nature is at its most spectacular. The eruptions of 1730 – 1736 buried around a quarter of the whole island, including several villages, and gave rise to the impressive lava and volcano landscape that we see today. From here you head down to the south of the island, stopping en route to visit the seaside volcanic crater of El Golfo before finally reaching the seaside village of Playa Blanca.

Day 6: Playa Blanca, 36 - 70 km

Playa Blanca sits at the very south of the island and looks across to Fuerteventura. Today you can take a boat across to Corralejo and enjoy a visit or a ride on another island. Alternatively enjoy a day in Playa Blanca and take the opportunity to visit the nearby coves and beaches of Papagayo, the best on the island and unspoilt by tourism.

Day 7: Playa Blanca – Arrecife, approx. 50 km

From Playa Blanca, you head across the dramatic hills of Femés before heading to the wine country of La Geria. Here, the unusual vineyard cultivation techniques have given rise to a fascinating landscape not to be seen anywhere else in the world, and producing some fine wines. The route then descends to the coast and follows a nice promenade from Puerto del Carmen to Arrecife.

Day 8: Arrecife

    Bicycle

    Bicycles inclusive panniers

The offered bikes are touring bikes from the brand Stevens. All bikes are equipped with a pannier. You can choose between the following bikes (for ladies and gents)

    • 30-speed-bikes
    • E-bikes
    • Road Bikes

    E-bikes | Electric bikes | Pedelecs

With an e-bike every bike tour is a breeze! If you had few opportunities to cycle over the last weeks or if you are not sure concerning your fitness, but also with physical disabilities, every bike ride is a treat! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern E-bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times ... So you can now book a bike tour together with cyclists who have different fitness level. Acclivity can be handled easily. The brand of the bikes is Vélo de Ville with a motor (250W) and battery (400W) of Bosch.

Note: E-bikes are a great development, but should be - due to their driving characteristics (high weight + high speed) - booked only by very safe and experienced cyclists with a very good sense of balance. Not suitable are electric bikes for people who rarely ride a bicycle

    Road Bike

You can also book a raod bike - Shimano 105 compact. Brands are Berria, Stevens, Macario, Merckx, Cannondale. The bikes cannot be confirmed they always depend on the availability on spot.

    Bicycle breakdowns

Breakdowns can happen even with new wheels and by best servicing. Should a repair not be possible, please contact our service number! In a few hotels/guest houses we have some bikes on stock if you need to change them during the trip.
