Easy cycling without crowds, but often not beside the river
Good bikes waiting for us at hotel in Dresden, though prefer bikes without back pedal brakes. The Dresden hotel was quite far from the railway station (not many taxis about and no Uber). We were concerned about cycling back to station next day in heavy traffic for train ride up river, so cycled part way upriver and back instead. Great path cycling beside river to Meissen. Thereafter, the path often deviated away from the river, so not so interesting and we also encountered roadworks requiring a 10km deviation along roads.
All the hotels were clean and comfortable with good breakfasts. At the Torgau hotel there was no one there to let us in even though check in was supposed to be from 2pm. Phones calls to the hotel and then to Augustus Tours eventually solved the issue and we were able to get a code to open the key box. The Augustus Tours help line was very efficient.
There was not much in the way of river traffic and overall we would not do this cycle tour again, though parts of the Elbe close to Czechia that we saw from the train looked more inviting.
