Feedback on cycle holiday Via Claudia Augusta - Augsburg to Verona
We loved the tour, (+++) especially the gravel roads through forests and meadows. The close contact with nature was very relaxing. (-) The cycle paths in Alto Adige are of very good quality but a bit monotonous when always following a river.
We only had 2 unannounced diversions during the 7 days. The first one was along the Haidersee (after the Rechensee), where we had to leave the bicycle path and cross the biotope up to the main road and then follow the main road to Mals. The second one was at the Kalterersee where almost all cycle paths were closed due to a thriatlon competition. There too we had to take the mainroad from Kaltern up to almost Tramin.
The hotels were very good. The personnel was always very friendly. (+++) We really liked Hotel Tannenhof next to Reutte. They even allowed us to borrow their e-bikes so that we could go for dinner in the city center (we travel with conventional MTB`s). (+++) We also liked Hotel Flora in Merano, especially the location in the city center next to the river/promenade, and the nice swimming pool. (-) The hotel in Schongau, hotel Rössle, was a bit akward because the entrance looks like a normal appartment building and you have to go to the 1st or 2nd floor to find the reception. Moreover, their telephone did not work that day so we couldn`t reach anyone. Fortunately, after 10 minutes, someone arrived and all went well from then on.
The app is very user friendly, we really like to use it. We didn`t really use the 2 books you gave us at the beginning. (-) Navigating with the app uses a lot of energy and, although the phone was fully loaded at the beginning of each day, the battery was empty after 3 hours. Of course we were travelling with 3 people so we could switch phones or use a power bank.
We were extremely lucky with the weather : sunshine and mild temperatures during the 6 first days. We only had some rain at the end of day 7, after our lunch break. Day 8, from the Lago di Garda to Verona, was going to be very windy and wet. The route was also longer than originally planned, 83km instead of 50km, because there was a small mistake in the plans. Since we also wanted to visit Verona, we decided to arrange a shuttle from Torbole to Verona through Inn Tours. Michael was very helpful and could find us a shuttle very quickly. We arrived in Verona around noon time and had all the afternoon to visit the city, which we really appreciated.
So thank you very much for the very nice organisation. It was our 6th bike holiday and again really great.
