This was a varied route but had some very confusing sections using the navigation app (Guibo). Often the bike path was closed and the diversion signs didn`t always make sense. We did have stage maps (paper) but two were missing from the package (Leutschach to Maribor and Maribor to Leibnitz). We definitely could have done with the paper maps on these two days.

We had two days of poor weather which was a shame because one of the days would have been particularly scenic.
If we did this tour again we would not do the Maribor extension, going into and out of Maribor itself was very urban, on a very busy road with heavy lorries even though we were on the bike path, often confusing and not really our thing.

The hotels were all very welcoming with great breakfasts and a meal option at night (except for JUFA Leibnitz). HOWEVER, I would definitely say please do not send cyclists to JUFA Leibnitz. It was full of very noisy young men (drunk?) especially between 12am and 3am. This was not really acceptable, they were shouting and carrying on. We nearly left the hotel to look for somewhere else. I think cyclists deserve better than this. Also, finally for JUFA Leibnitz, there were no charging points in the bike shed and only two to share with electric cars in the outside parking area. There are plenty of other hotel options in Leibnitz.

Overall, the daily kilometres were very manageable. The e-bikes were excellent and got us up some very steep hills. I perhaps only used the battery on two days or where necessary.

Now to the Guibo App. It was often very confusing to use, saying my GPS was 194 metres out, left/right turns were not always communicated, sending us off route. Signage on the roads was very poor, the only day we felt confident about not using the app was Leitntiz to Graz. Your phone needs to have a very good battery life, it was a bit stressful when your phone`s battery was running low and you needed some guidance to get to the hotel.

Detours in many places on the bike path, I guess this can`t always be helped but proper diversion signs should be in place for cyclists.

Summary of daily rides:

Graz to Stainz
Detour on the bike path (confusing) due to construction works just outside Graz and along the Mur.
R6 (as stated in the document) did not exist, it was actually R9 to Stainz.
GPS not working - said route cannot be navigated.

Stainz to Eibiswald
Routing very confusing, signage very poor. App not navigating in part, eventually found the Olsperweg.

Eibiswald to Leutschach
R20 and R25 very well signed, no problems today. Magdalena at the Rebenlehof was especially helpful. Newly refurbished accommodation, very nice.

Leutschach to Maribor
Short route due to poor weather and had to shelter for some time due to storms.
Navigation app kept stalling and the signage on the road was very confusing.
Scenic on the Austrian/Slovenian border and nice bike path to the outskirts of Maribor, however the ride into Maribor was quite daunting with heavy lorries on the road.

Maribor to Leibnitz
Retraced route to motorway junction (too urban, busy and motorway junctions), signage confusing especially when the bike path said NO CYCLISTS by the motorway (underpass). Too urban for our liking. See note above re JUFA Leibnitz.

Leibnitz to Graz
Best stage of the week, very easy to follow R9 and R2 bike paths, better cycling route, didn`t need the app.
