Andante Cycle/Boat Rhine River Tour Mainz to Basel September 2015
This was our second cycling/river boat vacation with Rad & Reisen. The previous being on the My Story in 2013 with which we were very pleased despite losing two days of cycling due to flooding of the Danube. This vacation on the Andante provided similar comfort and friendly staff, but fell short for a couple of reasons. One, two in our group of four required to stay in touch with family and business via internet, but the advertised Wifi was only available very sporadically and only for very short periods. Staff often blamed being in France for the lack of access. Yet other cruise providers and Andante staff appeared to have Wifi available. Secondly, the cruise director (Godfried) during his presentations for the upcoming day, appeared to lack enthusiasm. Thus our anticipation of an exciting next days cycle tended to be dampened. In addition, this same feeling was evident when it came to his handling the few questions posed to him. He tended to be abrupt and at times curt making one feel unwelcome. It did not help that he had to relay that many of the sites along the routes were closed. Another shortfall was the loss of the entire final day of cycling due to a boat docking issue. Many on board felt that an alternative activity should have been provided as patrons only got five of the six opportunities to cycle. Spending an extra day in Basel was not what our group was very excited about. Thus the cycling vacation on the Andante did not live up to our expectation based on our previous My Story experience. It was enjoyable, but missing the small things that would have made it memorable.
