Our first cycling holiday along the Danube - a great success
Here is my summary:Our first holiday cycling in Europe and we made a great choice to cycle along the Danube. Rad & Reisen made it very interesting for us by selecting a good variety of guesthouses and hotels in great locations for our 7 night route, It was really wonderful when we arrived at Grein, on the banks of the Danube, to be taxied up into the mountains to a lovely hotel at Bad Kreuzen. We awoke the next morning to look at the mountain view from our balcony - a real "Sound of Music" experience.The cycling was easy going, except for a headwind, blowing not too hard, almost all the way. We stopped at a village on Sunday morning and went to a Floh Makt, we would call that a cross between a village fete and a car boot sale in England. The people were all very friendly, lots of beer and wholesome food being served... We visited the Wilendorf Venus, Durnstein.... so many great experiences.On the last day cycling we had a train ticket to take us to Tulln so that we could cycle from there to Vienna. We decided to try to change the ticket, so that we cycled to Tulln, and got the train into Vienna from there. We met some mad Americans at the Tulln station (beware there are two stations in Tulln), mostly unfit and not able to cycle much, but they were really enjoying themselves. Overall it was very enjoyable and memorable and we look forward to another with Rad & Reisen.
