Ovington Danube cycling trip August 2016
Overall the tour is a good introduction to cycling in Europe. Generally the infrastructure around the trip worked well ie the bags were always there when we arrived in the accommodation and Claudia was great in helping to organise the tour initially and enroute. Our main criticism of the tour would be some of the accomodation, in that the rooms provided in the cheaper option accomodation were generally very poor and in no way 3 * . These lower grade rooms were very small and either next to the kitchen, a lift or the smoking areas. Since these rooms were not air conditioned, and windows couldn’t be opened because the rooms filled with smoke, they consequently became very hot and stuffy.Wellness obviously has a different meaning to how it is used in Australia. If we had known this was the standard of rooms we would have paid the extra for better rooms. The only other issue is that it would be better if all accomodation is in the town’s along the river with possibly just one night in the hills for the experience ie St Agnes. Other than the one night it’s not necessary and doesn’t add value to the trip. Also as a foreigner with no German language skills directions to the hotel need to be more explicit and detailed, as at the end of each day this was a frustration that could be avoided.
