Down the Danube on a bicycle built for 2
My wife and I are tandem bike riders, but had never been on an organized bike tour. I found Rad+Reisen Eurocycle on the web, and booked a tour. Although Rad+Reisen does not have tandem bikes for rent, they have an affiliated shop in Passau that does. The bike shop arranged to have the tandem delivered to the boat dock in Passau, which was a big help.. Rad+Reisen does rent regular and e-bikes, and all of our fellow travelers seemed to love them.
Rad+Reisen also arranged accommodations in a hotel in Passau, since we arrived the night before boarding.
Once we were on board, everything was easy.
Tours were very well organized, with choices as to how far and how difficult the rides could be. Andreas’ personal directions had great tips for enjoying the rides and finding gems in the countryside for getting meals and site seeing. The routes were well marked with both the maps and signs. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was great.
The biking infrastructure along the Danube is amazing. The trails are very well maintained, very safe, with incredible views. Where else can you ride from village to village along a never ending postcard and eat lunch beneath a thousand year old castle?
We are already choosing our next trip with Rad+Reisen.
Just a note: Many of the smaller villages and towns do not take credit or debit cards(even cash cards), so I suggest you bring some cash. Most of the towns do have ATMs,, where you can get cash.
