Reflections on a magical trip
This was a first time for my wife and me in traveling on a bike barge tour. Every single aspect of this tour was outstanding. The cycle staff worked extremely well and cooperatively with the barge staff. One efficient, positive and happy family - Hester & Hilde and then Captain Chris Chef Bas and the crewman and two servers - Damaris & ??. They continued to go beyond what was expected to ensure the guests were happy and their needs well taken care of. The food was consistently 5 star, creative, well presented, fresh and tasty. Bas is a treasure as a chef - highly efficient, funny, good company.
The barge was exceptionally clean and well maintained; on time and prompt at all meeting points and well stocked at the bar. Our stateroom was well laid out, comfortable and complete.
The daily cycle trips were interesting and varied. It would have been good to have more time in some of the stops - but I understand that the schedule for the whole trip cannot be sacrificed. It might be worthy of consideration to have different groups to cycle based on distance or speed. The groups were sometimes large and had to cater to, understandably, the slowest member of the group. I would also look to add water bottle holders to the bikes as it can be very warm on these trips.
Overall impressions are that this would be a very tough package to improve on. My wife and I were extremely satisfied with the attention to detail, the staff, the food, the barge, the ambiance. The bonus was that we were with a group of other guests who were interesting, great fun and full of joie de vivre. We will absolutely recommend your trips to any and all.
