Your first stage takes you through the Müritz National Park. You will cycle along the eastern shore of this 318 km² gem. Your route takes you through extensive forests and meadows to Neustrelitz, once the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

Before you set off again, you should take some time to explore the town. A network of many small lakes will take you to the Havel-Müritz waterway south of Wesenberg. Watching the boats on the lakes and at the locks is an experience in itself, even from the side of the road.

Cycle back to Müritz along the Havel waterway. Wave to the recreational boaters at the locks. The Three Queens’ Palace on Mirow Castle Island is an attractive place to stop off. The open landscape on the western shore of Müritz offers a fantastic view over the small sea.

From Müritz, cycle along the Mecklenburg Lake Trail to Lake Plau. At its southern tip, you can visit the largest bear forest in Central Europe. Brown bears live here in large forest enclosures. Continue cycling along the western side of Lake Plau. Plau is a small town with many half-timbered houses on both sides of the Elde River.

The stage leads around the northern tip of Lake Plau. The village of Alt Schwerin is quickly reached. At various points in the village and in the new Agroneum, you can experience Mecklenburg’s agricultural history of the last 200 years. At the edge of the Schwinzer Heide, your route then takes you to the island town of Malchow. Continue through the Land Fleesensee holiday region. In the tranquil harbor village of Sietow, you will reach the Müritz circular trail and pass Klink Castle on the way back to Waren. Bathing spots on the shores of Lake Müritz invite you to take a refreshing dip.
