Pearls of the Alsace Wine route

Strasbourg to Basel

Route

Tour profile / level 2

You will ride mainly on cycle paths, on minor agricultural tarred roads or on little secondary roads without much traffic.

Day 1: Strasbourg

The European city of Strasbourg is waiting for you with its medieval city center surrounded with picturesque channels, between the historic tanner district and the modern European parliament.

Day 2: Strasbourg – Obernai, approx. 37 km

The Canal de la Bruche once served to transport wine from the wine-growing areas to the capital. Today the cycle path runs along this canal from Strasbourg to Molsheim on the wine route. It continues past the 12 th century Romanesque churchat Rosheim to Obernai.

Day 3: Obernai – region Riquewihr, approx. 50 km

The cycle path runs through the famous vineyards and their wine-growing villages, which are among the most beautiful in Alsace: Mittelbergheim, Andlau, Itterswiller, Dambach-la-Ville, Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr.

Day 4: Region Riquewihr – Colmar, approx. 39 km

Today there are more vines and beautiful wine-growing villages. Turckheim and Eguisheim, two villages where time stands still. You reach Colmar in the early afternoon.

Day 5: day of rest in Colmar or Colmar - Guebwiller/Mulhouse, approx. 50-76 km + train ride back

Either you stay in Colmar and you enjoy the day or you can do a cycle roundtrip which leads you to Guebwiller or Mulhouse from where you can take back a train to Colmar.

Day 6: Colmar – region Mulhouse, approx. 66 km

From Colmar you go south to Mulhouse, along a cycle path through sleepy villages and forests. After visiting Neuf-Brisach, you reach Ottmarsheim. There you can admire the unique Romanesque church from the 12 th century (before taking the canal cycle path into the heart of the town).

Day 7: region Mulhouse – region Basel, approx. 53 km

The cycle path Eurovélo 6 takes you along the Rhone-Rhine Canal to Illfurth. Then you cycle through little villages in the region of Sundgau to Basel.

Day 8: region Basel

Departure or extension of your stay at Basel.
