Slovenia Bike, Wine and Relax

Biker´s paradise in 3 countries

Itinerary

Route

Cycling paths are mostly flat to slightly hilly. You bike on quiet paths in fields, side and country roads with little or no traffic.

Individual arrival to Ptuj.

You will cycle along the Drava Cycle Path from Slovenia’s oldest city to Maribor, the country’s second largest city and the center of Slovenian-Styrian wine culture. Once you arrive in Maribor, you will find a lively old town with charming squares, street cafés, and the oldest grapevine in the world (Stara trta) right next to the Drava River. It is an ideal place to rest. On the way back to Ptuj, there are plenty of opportunities to make short stops at one of the numerous wineries

Today, you will travel through gently rolling countryside, vast fields, quaint wine villages, and tranquil river valleys to Radenci. The region is known for its excellent cuisine, legendary pumpkin seed oil and warm hospitality. The closer you get to Radenci, the more you feel the relaxing atmosphere of this spa region. Radenci itself is famous for its natural mineral water and long spa tradition. Surrounded by parks and protected by rolling hills, it is an ideal place to relax after an eventful day of cycling.

Along the Mur Cycle Path, you can experience the Styrian thermal spa and volcanic region around the spa town of Bad Radkersburg. With its historic town center, baroque houses and cozy cafés, the town offers many opportunities for strolling. In the numerous traditional wine taverns, you can taste the famous Styrian white wines and regional specialties.

Today takes you to the breathtaking wine route of Jeruzalem. Nestled in the rolling hills of Slovenian Styria, Jeruzalem is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric wine regions in Europe. Like a natural amphitheatre, the vineyards open up around the small pilgrimage site, which conveys a feeling of timelessness with its baroque church, rustic wine cellars and lovingly tended vineyards. The highlight of the day is an overnight stay at a traditional winery, including half board, in the vineyard village of Kog.

At the beginning, the route offers panoramic views and picture-postcard scenaries. Small chapels, wine cellars and lovingly maintained farms line the way to the Croatian border. You will immerse yourself in the green and peaceful landscape of the Medjmurje region in northern Croatia. Wine roads wind through the countryside and wine taverns (kleti) invite you to take short breaks and enjoy tastings. Heading north, you return to Slovenia and descend into the Prekmurje region, where the landscape changes significantly: it becomes more open, wider, and quieter. The contrast to the hilly wine routes is clearly noticeable. On the flat and well-developed bike path, you roll comfortably to Moravske Toplice. The town is known for its black thermal mineral water spring and its modern spa facility, Terme 3000. Perfect for relaxing after the cross-border stage.

On your trip to neighboring Hungary, you can purchase souvenirs at one of the potteries and learn more about the art of pottery. Back on Slovenian soil, recharge your batteries at the Bukovnica Reservoir: 50 different spots are said to have soothing and healing properties.
