Route

Tour profile/ Level 2:

Routes follow the Main Danube Canal, field paths, forest roads and asphalted side roads. Some hilly stretches and longer climbs. The cycle tours are guided on most of the dates. There are four dates on which the tours are unguided.
 

Itinerary Bamberg - Regensburg

Day 1: Bamberg
Individual arrival. Embarkation at 2 p.m. Take a stroll through the old city center of Bamberg with its baroque buildings, small alleys and traditional german houses.

Day 2: Bamberg - Erlangen, approx. 55 km
After breakfast you cycle along the canal to Hausen and further on through the fields of the Regnitz valley. During the day you will have all the time to enjoy one of the local "Biergarten" along the way before you arrive in the "beer city of Germany" Erlangen.

Day 3: Erlangen - Nürnberg - Hilpoltstein, approx. 34 km
The ship brings you to Nürnberg, where you can discover the medieval part of town or the remains of the second world war. Afterwards you will cycle along one of the oldest canals in the world. The original Main-Danube-Canal from King Ludwig I., with its 101 locks and beautiful sites. In the afternoon you leave the old canal and bike through the national park Rothsee to Hilpoltstein.

Day 4: Hilpoltstein - Beilngries, approx. 48 km
This days tour brings you to Freystadt, where you can visit the town center and of course the pilgrim church of "Maria-Hilf-Wallfahrtskirche", a baroque monument in the middle of the fields. In the afternoon you will arrive in Beilngries, with its historical city center and the own local brewed beer.

Day 5: Beilngries - Riedenburg, approx. 30 km
Today, you cycle along the "Altmühltal" and you will see remains of the old King Ludwig Canal that used to flow here. The bike tour ends in Riedenburg.

Day 6: Riedenburg - Regensburg, approx. 55 km
The final part of the Main Danube bike path will bring us to Kelheim, a small city that is situated at the crossing of the canal and the Danube river. You will reach the mediavel town of Regensburg after a nice cycling tour through green fields and beautiful sites.

Day 7 : Regensburg
After breakfast you can participate in a city tour or you can do some last-minute-shopping. Disembarkation and individual departure at 12 noon.
 

Itinerary Regensburg - Bamberg

Day 1: Regensburg
Individual arrival and embarkation at 2 p.m. After a visit to the medieval town, the bikes are tested on a short tour in the surroundings of the town.

Day 2: Regensburg - Riedenburg, approx. 55 km
Today you cycle along the river Danube until you reach Kelheim, a small cosy town at the crossing of the Danube and the Main-Danube-Canal. Your destination for today will be Riedenburg.

Day 3: Riedenburg - Beilngries, approx. 30 km
Today’s cycle tour leads you through the beautiful "Altmühltal" where you will see the remains of the old King Ludwig Canal that used to flow here. The day ends in Beilngries, a town with an historical city centre and local brewed beer.

Day 4: Beilngries - Hilpoltstein, approx. 48 km
At first, you will cycle to Freystadt where you can visit the center and the baroque church "Maria-Hilf-Wallfahrtskirche". In the afternoon you will continue your tour to Hilpoltstein. Here you can enjoy the beautiful Bavarian scenery from the sundeck.

Day 5: Hilpoltstein - Nürnberg - Erlangen, approx. 34 km
You bike along the national park Rothsee to discover one of world’s oldest canals, the original Main-Danube-Canal of King Ludwig I. with its 101 locks. This is how you arrive in Nürnberg, where you can take a stroll through the medieval part of the town or visit one of the remains of the second world war. After that a relaxing cruise to Erlangen awaits you.

Day 6: Erlangen - Bamberg, approx. 55 km
The last cycling day of this tour takes you through the fields of the Regnitz valley on one of Germanys most beautiful bike paths, the "Regnitz-Radweg". On the way you can stop at one of the local "Biergarten" before you will arrive in Bamberg.

Day 7: Bamberg
On the last day of the tour you can visit Bamberg and discover its beautiful baroque buildings, the typical german houses and the small alleys. Disembarkation and individual departure at 12 noon.

    Accommodation

    Welcome on board of the MS LA BELLE FLEUR!

    The boat "La Belle Fleur" was built in 1929 as a freighter of type ’luxury motor’, under the name Anjoma. In 1993 the ship was converted into a passenger ship. At that time, they also renamed and given the name Sylvia. Meanwhile the ship is internally renovated, rebuilt and it got a new name. La Belle Fleur is internally renovated and rebuilt during winter 2011/2012. It is a great ship to relax after a bike ride.


    CATERING

    The cook on board is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast, packed lunch and a warm dinner in the evening. The catering consists of full board. Catering starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day. Vegetarian catering is possible, please announce this with reservation and discuss it again with the tour guide on site.


    CABINS

    On board you will find 8x bunk bed cabins & 1x 3 bed cabin. All our cabins are provided with hot and cold water, private shower and toilet, 220 voltage and central heating. There is limited storage space in the cabin. We recommend 1 suitcase per person. You can slide the suitcase under the bed. You can open the window in the cabin as well as in the bath room.


    LANGUAGES ON BOARD

    Aboard our boats you’ll be joined by travelling companions from all over, as well as a Tour Leader who speaks the group’s two main languages – usually English and German. Shall we bet that you’ll go back home with a smattering of French?

    Bicycle

    Bicycle & Equipment:

    The offered 24-speed-hybrid bicycles are modern bikes with an aluminium frame and kitted with responsive brakes and gear shift. Plus: mudguards, comfort gel saddles, flat-palmed grips, Schwalbe Marathon anti-puncture tyres.

    All bikes are equipped with panniers (20 l), bottle holder and bike lock.


    Bike breakdown

     

    Can also occur with very new and good bikes. A puncture of the wheel will be fixed by yourself, for bigger damages please contact your cruise director. Please do not make any repair-service without our agreement on our bikes. For smaller technical problems with the bike please contact the cruise director or a member of the crew at the end of the bike-leg.

    ARRIVAL BY PLANE

    Airport: Frankfurt/Main (FRA), Nuernberg (NUE)

    From Frankfurt airport there are train connections with one change to Bamberg (approx. 3 h, approx. € 56,- per person). Train connections to Regensburg also with one change (approx. 3-4 h, approx. € 70,- per person).

    From Nuernberg airport you can take the metro (U2) to Nuernberg Central Station. From there, direct trains are going to Bamberg (approx. 1 h, approx. € 21,- per person. From Nuernberg there are also direct trains connections to Regensburg Central Station. (approx. 1-2 h, approx. € 28,- per person).

    ARRIVAL BY CAR

    Parking:
    Bamberg: Park & Ride parking places, e.g. P&R "Brennerstraße" near central station (approx. € 20,-/week).

    Regensburg: Park & Ride parking place "Unterer Wöhrd" (free of charge, unguarded).


    ARRIVAL BY TRAIN

    Train station: Bamberg, Regensburg

    We recommend to take a taxi from the train station to the mooring place.

    Between Bamberg and Regensburg, there are train connections with one change in Nuernberg (approx. 2 h, approx. € 39,- per person). Please find schedules and prices here.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    It is not possible to bring your own bikes due to the lack of space.

    The third person in a 3-bed-cabin has to be a child younger than 11,99 years.

    We ask you to refrain from bringing hard cover luggage, because storage space in the cabins is very limited.

    Schedule- and programme changes: The schedule and programme are always subject to change. If a certain route cannot be taken due to high or low tides, the Skipper retains the right to change the route for reasons of safety without this constituting any legal entitlement to a claim. Because your boat will generally dock at the next port on the same day, your time frame for some activities and sight-seeing will be limited. Due to a very low overhead clearance of some bridges the sundeck will be closed from time to time

    Travel documents: EU-citizens need a valid personal ID or passport.

    Special dietary: requests will be respected as far as possible. Please inform us on booking. Price € 50,- per person/week.
