From Berlin to the Baltic Sea by Bike + Boat

Berlin - Stralsund / Stralsund - Berlin

Itinerary

Route

You will mostly be biking on car-free paths, rural country roads with little traffic and asphalted bike lanes, but also on dusty field paths and dirt roads with a few short sections of federal highways. The routes are mostly flat with some hilly parts, although there will be a few steep inclines and downgrades.

Day 1: Berlin
Individual arrival in Berlin. Embarkation at 4 pm. Berlin always is worth a trip. Maybe you’ll have some time and a notion to take a stroll on the Kurfürstendamm, take a walk through the Nicolai Quarter on Spree Island or take gander at the Brandenburg Gate. The possibilities of Berlin are almost endless.

Day 2: Berlin Eberswalde, approx. 42 km
The well-marked bike route meanders northward through the Ruppin sea area to Oranienburg. Sightseeing tip: the Baroque castle with its park, museum and orangery. This is your embarkation point, after which you will sail to Eberswalde. In the heart of the city, in the Finow Canal, is the oldest working lock in Germany, which has been a technical monument since 1978.

Day 3: Eberswalde Schwedt, approx. 33-65 km
First you will bike through the splendid landscape on the Treidel bike route along the Finow Canal, passing by forests, glades and small hills in the direction of Niederfinow (boat lift – a tour is always an option) to Hohensaaten. There you will get back on board and sail to Schwedt or if you still like to cycle you go by bike.

Day 4: Schwedt Szczecin, approx. 28 km
Today you will bike through a part of a unique, cross-border nature reserve, the "Lower Oder Valley National Park", then on to Gartz and Mescherin, where you will get back on the boat. Then you will sail to Szczecin, the green city on the mouth of the Oder and one of the largest ports on the Baltic Sea. The reconstructed castle of the dukes of Pomerania situated in the city’s historic centre is worth seeing.

Day 5: Szczecin Zinnowitz, day of rest on board
Today you will spend all day on board. After one last narrow passage, the boat will arrive in the expansive waters of the Bay of Szczecin (Oder Lagoon). After the crossing, you will reach Zinnowitz, one of the most beautiful baltic sea baths on Usedom island.

Day 6: Zinnowitz Peenemünde Lauterbach, approx. 15-25 km
Today, you have a choice: either cycle through the south of Usedom via Wolgast and Mölschow to Peenemünde, passing the Usedom Distillery (well worth a visit!). Or take the shorter beach route via Trassenheide and Karlshagen and enjoy sunbathing on the Baltic Sea beach. In the evening, the ship will take you from Peenemünde to Lauterbach on Rügen (arrival approx. 9 p.m.).

Day 7: Rügen island roundtrip, approx. 32-40 km | Lauterbach Stralsund, approx. 50 km
Cycling enthusiasts can explore the beauty of the island of Rügen by bike, riding to the famous seaside resort of Binz and back (approx. 35 km). Alternatively, you can take a circular bike tour to the seaside resorts of Sellin and Baabe (approx. 40 km). In the afternoon, your ship sets sail for Stralsund. Now you can relax on board and reflect on the experiences of the past few days. Those who prefer a longer bike ride can also cycle the route to Stralsund (about 50 km), where you will then rejoin the ship. To cap off your trip, a farewell dinner awaits you on board.

Your bike tour takes you from Stralsund across the Rügendamm to Gustow, home to its famous village church, then via Poseritz, Groß Schoritz, Garz, and Putbus to Lauterbach in southeastern Rügen. Here, you’ll rejoin your ship. Alternatively, you can take the ferry to Lauterbach and then explore the island and its famous beach resorts by bike.

Day 3: Lauterbach – Peenemünde – Zinnowitz, approx. 15-26 km
Today, you will explore Usedom – with two routes to choose from: In the morning, visit the Historical Technical Museum in Peenemünde or the Usedom Distillery in Mölschow (recommended!). Touring bikes

Our bikes are state-of-the-art quality bikes based on proven brand quality of the bicycle manufactory Velo de Ville. All Velo de Ville bikes use only braking systems from renowned manufacturers such as Magura or Shimano. Minimum body height for our rental bikes: 1.50 m

The following rental bikes (including pannier) are available for you:

  • 7-speed UNISEX touring bikes
  • 8-speed E-bikes

E-bikes | Electrical bikes | Pedeclecs

We provide you with modern quality e-bikes (pedelecs) with Nexus 8-speed hub gears, gradually selectable aid of pedaling power, puncture-proof tires and deep UNISEX comfort entry. The electric bikes from Velo de Ville are equipped exclusively with Bosch mid-mounted motors and fully integrated 500 Wh Bosch batteries. The design of the batteries allows them to almost disappear into the frame. This gives you better weight distribution and a low center of gravity without missing the convenience of easy entry. You save your battery by starting with as low a support as possible and increasing as needed. Please note that with the newer models of our e-bikes it is not possible to attach handlebar bags due to the additional fixed speedometers and wider handlebars.

IMPORTANT: Please reserve ebikes early, as they are only available in very limited numbers.
