Dresden is the end of this beautiful tour: the Zwinger Palace, Semperoper (Opera house) and the Frauenkirche (church of ladays) wait for you. Between this two cities you cycle along the rivers Vltava and Elbe, visit a lot of picturesque villages and cross romantic landscapes. Enjoy the panoramic view from the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. This landscape is really impressive. Maybe you even like the way between Prague and Dresden more than the cities themselves.

      Tour profile / level 2

Easy to moderate. You have to climb a few gradients, apart from that the route is mainly easy to cycle on the Elbe cycle path. A few roads are unpaved.

      Day 1: Prague

      Individual arrival.

Day 2: Prague - Melnik, approx. 58-70 km

Despite the first small ascent, today’s stage follows a nice trail to the heart of the Czech wine region - the town of Melnik. Just before we leave Prague, we pass the Troja Baroque Castle and we continue to the North following the bank of the Vltava River. The river cuts into the ground here, which creates very interesting rock formations and deep valleys. Visits of castles in Nelahozeves or Veltrusy are the biggest highlights of this day. We will end in an old wine town above the confluence of the rivers Vltava and Elbe – Melnik.

Day 3: Melnik - Litomerice, approx. 50 km

Today’s stage leads us through a calm Elbe region and is without significant altitude changes. This region is one of the most fertile regions in the Czech Republic. The most impressive stop on today’s stage is the massive Terezin Fortress from the turn of the 18th century, which illustrates the military architecture of that time. The seamy side of the history is the World War II period. Nazis used this place as a Jewish concentration camp. We will conclude the day in an old town and spiritual center of this region – Litomerice.

Day 4: Litomerice - Decin, approx. 52 km

Even though the Czech Middle Mountains region is very hilly, we will follow the banks of the Elbe River most of the time and hills with several old-time ruins will surround us. This former volcanic region had always been an ideal terrain for building of castles and fortresses.

Day 5: Decin - Bad Schandau, approx. 25 km

This day will be almost fully optional but always special! In the morning you can decide, whether you prefer biking or sailing to Hrensko. This border town is situated in the heart of the Czech-Saxon Switzerland NP and offers many attractive activities. It offers many hiking trails leading through the scenery of the rocky towns, the mesas, the passes, deep gorges and hillsides. Special bonus to admire is the wonder of the Pravcicka Gate, no doubt, the biggest natural rock bridge in Europe.

Day 6: Bad Schandau - Dresden, approx. 48 km

This day is packed with historical sights! Shortly from Bad Schandau we will see a scary looking Königstein Fortress and just past the curve a beautiful rock formation with a romantic rock bridge and Bastei Ruin. A couple of kilometers down the road, by the town of Pirna, we will enter the region of the Dresden Valley.

        E-bikes | Electric bikes | Pedelecs

With an electro bike every bike tour is a breeze! If you had few opportunities to cycle over the last weeks or if you are not sure concerning your fitness, but also with physical disabilities, every bike ride is a treat! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern electro bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times

Note: E-bikes are a great development, but should be - due to their driving characteristics (high weight + high speed) - booked only by very safe and experienced cyclists with a very good sense of balance. Not suitable are electric bikes for people who rarely ride a bicycle

        Warner tour Prague to Dresden

Days 1, 2, 4 and 5 were excellent. Day 3 was disappointing because of the industrial nature of the area and some roads were too busy.

        Prague to Dresden

Bikes could have been better. My handlebar height was fixed and could not be raised. As such, I had to hunch over the whole trip and this really hurt my back and shoulders. Hotels were generally good, but would be better if they all had a small fridge ...

Easy cycling on a beautiful route

Overall: the scenery on this route is lovely, gently changes from day to day, and the route is easy to navigate and mainly flat. A very good trip! However, I have some points which might be useful to consider for future travellers. Hotels: ? the hotels ...

        Prague-Dresden 2019

The route was generally good but more industrialised than I had expected. In particular following major road and rail routes most of the way. The condition of the cycle paths was excellent. The information was largely good but I ticked average because ...
